Starting from scratch

on my home entertainment. Started off with Mission Cubes and am unsure which AV to match them with.. Sony's 1200 or Onkyo 505? Someone was telling me to get an Arcam as music is more important to me. Is it really worth going for the Onkyo 605 when i have a very entry level projector and watch movies via my Mac? I will eventually get round to buying a DVD player though. Budget for AVR is around 300pounds, but will push if necessary. Please help! Thanks, PL
