Hi. Just ordered Samsung UE55ES8000. Years since last TV purchase. Funds only allow soundbar and sub unit. What would others recommend. Ideally <£800. Thanks! Mike
A Yamaha ysp-2200 would be a good choice with your budget.
Is funds the only reason for not going surround sound?
This should thrash a soundbar shouldn't it?
Edit: apologies, I can't count! The point remains though, £800 can build a really nice surround sound system these days. Replace the Q acoustics for the Boston kit and you have a £600 surround sound system.

Are you suggesting buying a relatively unknown brand from a seller with 0 ratings on eBay?

not unknown at all , check youtube for atohm , they are real high end speakers
top models are 5 figures they also make drivers for lots of other companies
Don't buy the YSP unless cable runs and space dictate.
I have one due to the above issues and whilst very good and clever it doesn't really do surround.
Rear effects are always at your side and not behind.
They do pan forwards but not from behind you and you sit slightly outside the rear of the surround 'bubble' so can hear the intended effect but don't ever get it.
It's a good bit of kit but good is all compared to separates which I used to own and were that next step up in surround experience.
Your budget will buy some great kit.
Stuff: Panasonic 46gt,110 blu ray.Yamaha YSP2200.Humaxt2 with hard drive.ArcamCD73 + A65 with B & W 603s3,Project something for vinyl + PC and CYP dac.
Are there any UK distributors? Any chance of a demo before purchase? Do they offer any home trial in the UK?
I've had my ysp2200 for six months now and still can't get a decent surround sound from it no matter how I set it up. If I were you I would listen to one very carefully before you splash out £700+ on a set up that could easily be bettered with seperates.
