When I bought my amp, back in 2001 I decided I didn't need a 7.1 channel system. 5.1 would be more than enough, so I left the power amp for another day. Now, 6 years later, I can't find it for sale anywhere. No surprise there but I had hoped someone would have one boxed away somewhere and be able to source it for me. No luck so far. the model is Denon POA-T10. It retailed for £500 back in the old days!

Now, if anyone can help me find one, I'd be most grateful, or if not, can you suggest a power amp that would be compatible that I could use in it's place. Probably to drive my new, Dali Ikon 6s at the front. The power amp was able to connect directly to the main amp and take it's power from there I think. Not bad. But not here! Grrrr.

One for sale here at £350, or you could make the seller an offer.

Re: Power Amp for Denon AVC-A10SE

Heeheehee, rang him already. Made him an offer. He's mulling it over. Made a sensible offer. No point being silly. But £350 is a bit much for a 6 year old box, £500 when new. Not many people will have my amp and not many of them will be in the market for this power amp. errrrr I hope. And there's no warranty on old electronics so I think it's unwise to over-pay.

Are there any alternatives that would work?

I suppose it's probably best to try and buy the right one. Just imagining what another pair of Ikon On-Walls would be like Laughing out loud

Well if you can live without the remote control jiggery and pokery, I'd be looking at a Rotel, an old Audiolab 8000P or a pair of 8000Ms (or indeed new ones), something like that...

The Rotel RB-1080 might be a bit of a giggle, but it's about £800...

Was hoping to find a solution for less than £250! Will hunt eBay some more. Thanks for the tips!

Re: Power Amp for Denon AVC-A10SE

On the hunt for a Denon POA-T10, seem to be a number of them in the country second hand, so looking into it. But incase I go for a more ambitious route, I've been reading a lot about bi-amping. Sounds as though you can really improve the performance of your speakers in this way.

Well, the Dali Ikon 6s and Ikon Vokal 2 allow bi-wiring / bi-amping, so I wondered whether getting a 6 channel power amp instead of the 2 channel Denon, would be the way to go.

Happy to buy second hand, but which makes and models should I be on the look out for. Afraid I have never looked at a dedicated power amp before. Now I'm reconning that I'd need to take pre-outs from my Denon AVC-A10SE into 3 splitter cables to send the front left, right and centre channels into the Power Amp. Is this right? Any cable suggestions?

Cheers! A bit of a more ambitious attempt here!

Audiolab make their 8000X7 which is available from Super-Fi for £699. Is there any alternative that won't break the bank? Can't really afford this, but also don't really need it to be brand new!

You'd be hard-pushed to find a decent six-channel power amp for much less.

Thanks Andrew, I'll see how the Dali's are this weekend and think about adding this in as the next upgrade. Would allow me to use a couple of my KEF eggs on the very back as actual rear surrounds. Should make a big difference bi-amping the front 3 channels. Will check connectivity at the back of my Denon!

There are several Rotels on fleabay, inc a five-channel RMB-1075
currently running at £100, and an RB-840BX (back to Plan A) with a BIN
of £175.

Re: Power Amp for Denon AVC-A10SE

Very interesting! But I need 6 channels minimum in order to bi-amp all the front three speakers. Will take a look though. Thanks! Much more in budget. This is getting exciting!

Re: Power Amp for Denon AVC-A10SE

Arguably you wouldn't need to biamp the centre, as it's carrying less information than the front left/right.

Re: Power Amp for Denon AVC-A10SE

Last question. Promise!

I've got a placement issue with the new speakers! Unless I build a bridge on which to sit my Samsung plasma, I have nowhere to put my new centre speaker! This is most awkward. Can I place the Samsung directly on top of the Dali Ikon Vokal 2?

Expecting you to say no, but you never know. You might say that being built like a certain proverbial house the speaker would happily take 30+kg sat on top of it!

Just on your last point, in a movie soundtrack, most of the audio is directed to the centre speaker is it not?
