Position of new speakers for 5.1 upgrade to 7.1.

Hi,

I have PV1D, CMC2, CM9, CM8 (rear) in 5.1 Home cinema and looking to make it 7.1.

My CM8s are behind sofas and there is very less space to put those in line to my seating position. I can put those but they will be very near to hearing position.

Is it okay to keep CM8s as surround rear and add either CM1 or DS3 (dipole) as surround ( wall mounted).

which one of these are more used surround rear or surround? for 5.1 channel movie I think only surround will be used.

Please help. May be I need to move my sofa a bit to adjust CM8 in surround postion.
