Looking to by a new amp/receiver

Hi
I am a newbie and I am looking to buy a new amp/receiver for my living room. It will connect to my DVD player, Games console, Sky box and CD player etc. I have a set of Wharfdale flat panels at the back and a subwoofer and 2 Wharfdale speakers at the front with a centre speaker.
I mainly use the amp for watching TV, DVD's playing games and listening to music.
Can anyone recommend a new amp/receiver within the £200-£250 price range that will help me acheive surround sound for all inputs?
Please feel free to make any suggestion or give me any tips to get what I am looking for.

The obvious choice here is the Onkyo TX-SR505, at £250.
