Just thought I'd say Hi.. and get a little advice
Thought I'd just say a big Hello to everyone as I've just joined What Hi-Fi..
But... though I'd get a bit of advice at the same time ;) About 6/7 months ago I bought 5 Teufel R2 Concept speakers for 80 quid off eBay without the sub-woofer and they've just been sat in a box since then. I'd been nosing around and looking at the Sony AV-Recievers with the STRDN1030 looking especially appealing, but out of my price range, until RicherSounds decided to drop it to a more than reasonable 299. So, I've bought one and it's coming tomorrow.
So now I just need to get the cables and decide on (a reasonably priced) subwoofer, if any one has any recommendations? But I was also wondering wether I should include a pair of Philips bookshelf speakers into the combination. They currently sit on my desk stuck in a 15 pound amp, do you think it would be worth using them to make it 7 surround sound or just leave them out all together? And if so would they be better at the front or back?
Thanks for any replies!
I've found out a few bits about the R2 Concept. The four surround speakers are the CR 142 and the centre is the CR142c. The recommended crossover for the sub is 150Hz as the frequency response for the front and rear speakers is 100Hz to 20kHz.

It does sugges you could also use a crossover of 100, 120 or 200Hz.
Something like the Mission MS10 may be a good buy as the frequency response of this should be good up to a cross over set to 150Hz.
I agree with both posts above.
Can you describe your room, dimension? To get 7.1 to work you need to have the ideal room. If you are against the wall with your couch or chair, then don't do it as you will not be able to produce the desired effect and it will sound awful.

This will help you plan
after this we can talk subwoofers and budget!

Hi & welcome, i can only speak for myself but when i got my system in 2008 i had 5.1 speakers & decided to get another two speakers to make it 7.1, but soon decided as my chairs are up against the wall as my lounge is quite narrow to just have 5.1 as i didn't want to have too many speakers all over the room, at present i am quite happy with my 5.1 system & don't miss the two rear speakers.
Not sure what sub you should go for maybe someone else can advise, but as it's only for lower frequencies i would imagine any subwoofer would do.
