Hdmi termination?
Any one got any tips on repairing a hdmi lead, the terminal got damaged so I chopped the end off to expose the wires I've got,
yellow, orange, white& red central wires then blue shield- black ,pink, white.green shield - black ,pink ,white. pink shield-black ,pink, white. silver Sheild-black , pink white.
i need to no the number pattern for the wires but can seem to find the standerd diagram for this set of colours.
AFAIK there is no standard for the colours used.
So the only way you're going to find out which wire is connected to each pin is to continuity test each one with a multimeter.
Personally i'd buy a new cable...

its not buying a new hdmi that's the problem it's chasing it up the wall and hiding it behind the coving again that I want to avoid.
to do continuity I gues I will have to open the other end and fit a new plate to that to....

Also read the disclaimer at the bottom.

I hope there's a conduit. I would still recommend replace rather than repair. You're risking damaging your components (TV etc.) if you get the connections wrong.
Leave plugs intact and cut cable in the middle somewhere. Then join line wires. Choc block or similar. Would this solve yr problem?

Hi,
Can you not open the damaged connection carefully so you can see what way they are already wired?
Cheers,

With 20/20 hindsight, it's a good illustration of why it's best to terminate such cable installations with a wall-mounted socket, into which a short, easily-replaced flylead can be plugged.

I have 9 HDMI, digital optical and VGA cables, each 15m to 20m long, between my various rooms. Appearance is not a concern for a middle-aged bachelor, so I have tied them together reasonably neatly and passed them through holes drilled in the wooden door frames, but the cables are accessible all the time should I need to change one of them.

Although of course if he still has the connector he's cut off, he could still open it up and see which wire goes to which pin. That said, soldering on an HDMI connector isn't a task I think I'd want to take on – especially given the potential for damage to the equipment you connect with the cable if you make a mistake ...
Thankyou all for your replies.
i do have the cut off bit and have already opened it up,unfortunately it was a no name brand(my beautifull chord cable is still under the floor at my old house) and under the moulded end they had put loads of glue over the wires and they were unrecognisable.
i will try and get continuity down each terminal to identify them, but I'm not to hopefull unless I can be sure I have them all exact I won't risk it.
andrews spot on should have fitted outlet plate to it.i had one of the couple types at the projector end but went direct into the switch at the amp end, theoretically it was to keep the run as short as possible but I probably just didn't think about it.
well I got next week off, looks like I could be doing a bit of decorating.........again
