HDMI Connections to amp and tv from dvd player and freesat box
I currently have a non blu ray upscaling denon dvd player and a humax freeview box. Both are connected directly to my panasonic plasma tv using hdmi cables for picture and connected using optical cables to my av amp ( a yamaha a few yrs old with NO hdmi inputs) for sound.
I am now thinking about buying a blu ray player, upgrading to hd picture by buying a freesat box and buying a new av amp/receiver with hdmi inputs.
My query is this, and i apologise if it seems a bit daft but i am a little out the loop these days on hdmi av receivers, can i connect up my new blu ray player and freesat box the same way i have my current set up or does it all have to go through the new amp using hdmi cables?
In other words hdmi cables from freesat and blu ray connected direct to tv for picture and optical or coax cables from blu ray and freesat direct to amp to carry sound OR do I have to connect the blu ray player and freesat box direct to the hdmi amplifier using hdmi cables and then connect the amp direct to tv with an hdmi cable, thus dispensing with co ax and optical cables?
I would prefer to connect direct to my tv as i cant help thinking that sending the picture through the amp with hdmi cables is a much longer route with extra processing as opposed to direct hdmi connection to the tv for picture.
Any help would be much appreciated.
