hi,

just a quick question, if a dvd player has a hdmi connection does this automatically mean it will upscale or have progressive scan capable of producing 720p/1080i images on a HD ready tv.

No, there are some with HDMI only capable of delivering standard definition video. HDMI is a very simple connection to implement, once the licence fee has been paid, hence its inclusion on just about every new piece of equipment these days. The fact that it's very fashionable helps, too...
