First home cinema system, recommendations please

Please excuse my ignorance but this is my first post.

I'm looking to start a new home cinema as I've just inherited a pair of Celestion F30 floorstanders. I've been looking at reviews and like the look of the Yamaha RX-V673 as I use Spotify a lot and would have an ipod touch permanently plugged into it to stream music and sometimes use airplay.

The Celestions are a bit too big for my current room so I'm looking for a pair of bookshelf speakers to use for the time being and then incorporate them with the celestions when I move into a bigger place in about a year. Any idea/recommendations? A mate of mine suggested the Zensor 1s but I notice their not magnetically shielded, would it be a problem having them next to the television?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

According to Dali's website Clicky the Zensor 1 is semi magnetically shielded according to the specifications, whatever that means. If you have a LCD/LED TV it will be no problem.

The Dali Zensors should be a good match for the Yamaha RX-V673. I would suggest you go & have a demo first if at all possible before purchasing any of your choices, so you can make an informed decision.

Regards ...

Speakers - Dali Ikon 6 F L/R, Ikon Vocal 2 Centre, Ikon 1 Surround, B&W 610 Subwoofer.
TV - Calibrated Sony 46 HX853. BDP - Sony mr BDPS790, PS3, PS4.
A/V Amp - Yamaha RXV 1073

That's really helpful, thanks for your reply.  Smile

I've got an LED TV so I should be OK in that case.

Would it be with getting a small sub to use with the Zensor 1s?

Sorry for the delay in replying.

When you say a small sub, are you referring to the physical size of it or the output power? Either way it should give a decent boost to the base of the bookshelf speakers you intend buying.

If you intend enlarging your system at some point, I would recommend spending around double the amount on the subwoofer compared to the bookshelf speakers you are looking at, so about £400 - £500 & it does not have to be a Dali.  Some suggestios for you to look at - BK Electronics, Velodyne, B&W, Monitor Audio, Rel & Wharfdale

I've just bought the Tannoy HTS201 system which includes their HTS Sub, and the Yamaha RX-V673 and can highly recommend it - the sound quality is sensational, with plenty of oomph to power the speakers. I've linked it up to my home network and that streams music with no issues whatsoever, and the net-radio streaming functionality is pretty neat too - the only gripe is that you have to log into a special website to add stations to the "bookmarks" folder.

The HTS sub is also available separately - but note that you've got to turn the power right down when using the YPAO (auto setup function) feature of the receiver if your room is quite small - as it's a pretty loud sub!
