Connecting 2 subwoofers to hifi system,

hi guys, i have recently installed a second subwoofer into my hifi system. this sub has high level connections so i simply ran a cable straight to my amps speaker terminals.

however my initial subwoofer doesnt so this is connected using a splitter to connect to my preamp. my question is, can i connect my initial subwoofer to my 2nd subwoofer in any way (using low level connections maybe?). i want to do this as using a splitter well splits the signal therefore could be a slight lose of quality in one of my front speakers, so if  could connect my subwoofer without a splitter it would be better.

thankyou.

It would help if you told us what make and model numbers the two subwoofers and your amplifier are.

RE: Connecting 2 subwoofers to hifi system,

ok the 2 subwoofers are monitor audio rsw12 and mordaunt short ms308. i connect my rsw12 to my stereo pre amp via a splitter, however does this affect the quality of the sound? compromising one of my front speakers? this is y i wanted to daisy chain. but dont kno exactly how.

currently i connect my ms308 sub using high level connections witrh speaker wire str8 to my power amp.  because my rsw12 does not have high level connections im unsure wat to do.

RE: Connecting 2 subwoofers to hifi system,

I'm not sure if this will work for you. Go to the Maplin website,  and search for a "phono splitter lead". You will find three, with order codes L23BA, L24BA and L25BA. Then search for a "twin phono coupler", you will find order codes QT64U or L51AJ. I use one of the phono splitter leads and then the cheaper twin phono coupler to drive my Tannoy TS12 and Tannoy TS10 subwoofers in the bedroom (my signature is a bit out of date) from my (at least, until Tuesday, when it is being upgraded, woo-hoo!) lovely Yamaha RX-V671 receiver, which has only a single subwoofer output. Hope this helps.

RE: Connecting 2 subwoofers to hifi system,

I'm assuming that your h-fi system has a subwoofer output terminal similar to the terminal on multichannel audio-visual amplifiers and receivers, and you would connect the phono splitter lead to that. You then connect the twin phono coupler to the phono splitter lead. The other ends of the twin phono coupler can then be connected to the subwoofers with two ordinary subwoofer phono cables. I hope this works, but beyond that I don't know any more, I'm afraid.

RE: Connecting 2 subwoofers to hifi system,

i see what u mean but there isnt a dedicated subwoofer output on my preamp. so im having to use one of the front speaker output (using a splitter) to connect my first subwoofer. i was lookng at a way of eliminating the splitter sumhow, but doesnt seem likely .
