Blu ray and soundbar required to partner a samsung es8000 40"
Although I havent bought it just yet I am pretty much settled on the Samsung es8000 40". However with updating the tv I would also like to update the blu ray and include a sound bar and would like recommendations for both with a budget of around £900.
I currrently have a Sony BDP S360 would I really see a great difference by upgrading?
Those are very interesting suggestions, thanks bigboss.
This has brought another question to mind though. Would these soundbars be controllable through the TV volume controls when using the sky or Samsung ES remotes? or would these be an independant control?
Thanks in advance, Scott.
It may be possible. Best to check with the soundbar manufacturer. Otherwise, you can invest in a universal remote like Logitech Harmony.

Multibrand remote — If you don't want another remote control on your coffee table, consider a sound bar with a multibrand remote. This will let you control your other audio/video gear, such as your TV, DVD player, and satellite receiver. Some sound bars take the opposite approach — they don't include a remote, but can learn the commands of your television's remote control.
Both of the Yamaha soundbars support HDMI control so your Samsung TV remote can control the volume (as well as power off the bar when you hit standby etc). Not sure if there's a valid control code for them for a Sky remote though. I would recommend partnering the YSP-4100 with a subwoofer such as the Yamaha YST-FSW100, the 2200 comes with it's own passive sub so no need for any extras with that one.
Is it possible to get a wall mount for a sound bar? One that Can extend forward and rotate? I could attach the sound bar to the tv but I don't want the sound bar detracting from the thin bezel. The soundbar could also be supported by struts attached to the wall mount but this seems to undermine the mounting on a wall and hiding the wires phlosophy. The tv is to be mounted in a recess and this will at times restrict the view so a tv wall mount that can extend forward and rotate will be used and I want the same ability for the soundbar. Any thoughts?
Thanks for ur commitment to my posts big boss but these brackets will all be connected to the tv mount and visible. Although this is probably the cheapest option the idea is to find an independant mount for the soundbar that can extend and rotate. This would give me clean lines of tv and soundbar hiding the wires cables and fixings and giving a viewing flexibility.
I couldn't see how to create a new post so I do apologise for gate-crashing this thread. I have a similar set up, Samsung ES8000 Soundbar YS4100 and a marantz UD5007. The TV came with two free pairs of glasses - but they don't seem that great.
Can someone please advise:
- Whether this model supports passive or active 3D Glasses
- Whether I can use any make of 3D Glasses so long as the technology is supported or does it have to be via Samsung
- I need a pair of glasses that will comfortably fit over my existing spectales
- Ideally I would like to charge the glasses via the mains rather than rely on batteries
- Be very good quality, ideally not be locked to one viewing position to get the best 3D effect.
I look forward to your reply and if anyone can advise how I can create a new post (or wants to do it on my behalf as I am new member -- please feel free to, that would be very helpful.
Thanks
Celine

Active. Samsung makes active 3D TVs only. Passive 3D glasses do not need a battery or charging. The glasses when watching 3D at the cinema are the same ones you use for passive 3D TVs.

It doesn't have to be Samsung. The manufacturers have agreed on a common platform from 2012. So make sure you buy glasses made in 2012.

What you're describing about "being locked to one position to get the best 3D effect" is called 3D crosstalk. Unfortunately, nothing much can be done about it. Plasma 3D TVs are more resistant to 3D crosstalk as compared to LED lit LCD TVs like yours.

Go to the sub forum you want to post into (Home Cinema, TVs and Projectors etc.) & click "Post New Forum Topic".

For 1080p/24 blu rays, no. You may see an improvement over DVD performance. I would suggest to keep your existing blu ray player, & spend more on a good soundbar.
