24fps cinema has been regarded as the Director's preferred format. A few challenged the notion, arguing that Directors simply use the standard format & is not their preferred one, as they would prefer a faster rate.

Hobbit was filmed at 48fps & the reviews to that have been generally negative. Is 24fps format then "as the audience want" or still "as the Director intended"?

RE: "As the Director intended"

Great question. I think this remains to be seen.

But dammit if it sucks, I've already booked my "High Speed 48fps Hobbit" tickets last week. Then again, the theater I wanted to view the film at only show it in that format. Standard 24fps was unavailabul. Personally, due to my eyesight situation I suppose, have trouble with 3D at times so I'm hoping that maybe 48fps will remedy that, but I have no clue. To be continued...

Two contrasting views:

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Should-You-See-Hobbit-48-fps-34387.html

Not sure why should people become ill watching it. If anything, it's supposed to be easier on the eyes. I'll know when I see it in Manchester IMAX.

is 48 fps  not just for a better 3D experience i.e. 24fps x 2 eyes to prevent cross talk and blurring that the cinema suffers bad caused by the lower frame rate - that ruin the 3D experience and make it look cardboard rather than real.

48fps I am sure I read will give a true 120fps per eye experience which is what you get at home and has got to be better, just maybe not what people are used to eho dont have it at home

Reading the 2 article above make me want to see it to witness what they are describing- just need to find a good cinema - as some I have been too are terrible.

Try to watch it on IMAX (even though it's not an IMAX film).

I think the What Hi Fi news is a bit misleading, as even other cinemas are showing the film in HFR. Cineworld, for example:
