another layout thread i'm afraid
English

HI guys so here's my issue, I have a budget 6.1 setup but am just moving into a new house.

This is the layout of my sittingroom, i have marked the only really viable speaker positions on the image in red.

While the fronts are fine the surrounds are clearly well out of place being behind ad far away from the sofa.

my first thought is to drop the rear center and go with a 5.1 setup but even then are the surround speakers too out of position?

I have a toddler running around so i really don't want to be dealing with speaker stands and loose cables, i want everything buried.

so the question is, will this setup produce a reasonable enough soundstage to warrant the effort, or should i just go with a 3.1 system?

thanks

The rears will have more to do. You dont say what kit you have and I assume u are wall mounting. The basic positions are not too bad but 5.1 will probably work well enough. Moving the sofa a little and careful setup with a half decent system should work or you could consider in-ceiling rears.

I think the rear speakers are way too back. Can you use ceiling speakers directly on top of your seating position? That will be better.

thanks for the replies guys,

my current setup consist of an onkyo tx-sr576 and a set of Old sony surround speakers (bookshelf size) an wallmounted, very budget lol.

the house build is killing my finances at the moment so i really can't justify upgrading the system, as much as i would love ceiling mounted speakers it's just not viable at the moment...

Hi there. That's quite a dilema you have there.

Could you try a nice looking book shelf or something similar directly behind the sofa where the top of it is slightly higher than head hight and sit the 3 rear speakers on it behind your heads. You could bluetac them so they are hard to knock off. Or maybey have a nice wooden structure made with 3 resessed areas for the speakers to sit in that your toddler won't be able to reach. It would be up to you how you hide the cables and if you would be happy to cut a slit from the cable to come through the carpet to that if you moved the sofa in the future the holes should not be visible depending on the pile of the carpet of floor covering. Not so easy if you have wooden floors.

I hope I explained that clear enough. Let me know what you think. Wink
