I was just wondering if I could have my receivers set up so that one was powering hi end and the other low end. They are Sony STR-DB 930 and 940. Both have pre-outs and 5.1 ins.

Sorry, my brain's still boggling at the question, but at least I've stopped staring at your post and muttering 'why???'.

Yes, I guess you could, if they both have similar output power, and at least one enables you to turn off all signal processing and get as near to a five-channel pass-through as possible.

Just remember that the one acting as a 'slave' - ie the one being fed via its inputs, and thus only acting as a power amp, should have all its speaker distances and levels set the same - and that means distances set to the smallest possible value - and all speakers set to large, with subwoofer output off, so that full-range audio is passed.

Let's put it this way: provided you wire it all up correctly you can't do any damage, and if it sounds horrid, as I suspect it may, what have you lost?

Thought it would be interesting. I need a little tweakery every now and then. The benefits dont really outweigh having two running at once drinking electric like its goin out of fashion. Another problem arises, not enough rack space.

I did it this morning and it sounds more revealing, but the sound is confused and destroys the stereo image completely.
