i have two problems, and if anyone can help please bear with me cos i am very much a learner. The first is i cannot get my Receiver (Sony STR-DA1200ES) menu up on T.V. screen (SamsungLE40B550).I set up my speaker system three or four years ago with my old T.V. recently i noticed that my rear right hand Speaker was mute,i checked the wiring, that was ok,at this time i was in the process of installing new T.V.I decided to set Receiver back to factory settings and set it up with new T.V.but i cannot get the receiver menu up on screen.I have tried all different ways with T.V. Source button and the Receiver but no luck.My second problem is i cannot get sound through my H.D.M.I. leads from Blue Ray(Sony BDP-S360/S363) to Receiver and Receiver to T.V.I have spent a fortune on H.D.M.I. leads thinking that was the problem but to no avail.I have had to apply Optical lead to get sound.

Are you using the 'on screen' button on the remote to call up the display? Actually, I have a vague recollection that this receiver doesn't output its on-screen display via HDMI, but only on component and composite video outs. You may have to connect one of those outputs to a suitable input on your TV to see the menus.

On the second point, you're doing the right thing: that Sony receiver has no HDMI audio capability.

thank you Andrew Everard, wish i had posted earlier would have saved me some money on H.D.M.I. leads. The other problem i had,i have managed through trial and error to use the Receiver remote and the little window on the front of the Receiver to set my speakers and Subwoofer up,i.e.distance and sound levels.
