2 amps for 5.1 setup

is it possible to have my pioneer vsx520 driving the front and centre channels and my old pre hdmi sony str db830qs driving the rear channels how would i go about setting this up and would i hear any noticable improvements in sound?

i've just looked up on the spec on your pioneer amp it says it has a  5.1 output so why do you need to hook it up to your sony

If your Pioneer has pre-outs and your sony has the capability to bypass the preamp then you could hook them up.  But as the previous poster said, why do you want to do that?

i just heard somewhere that adding a second amp for back channels can add to the front sound stage of the other amp is this not true???
