I will eventually replace the NAD C352 with the CA 840, of course I need to hear it first but I am unlikely to ever pay the 800.00 plus 5 year supercare for one. So it got me thinking about the graded products they have, has anyone got any experience of them? and are they reliable. worth bothering with or not really.

Why the C/A 840? Have you heard it with your speakers?

I think for less £££ you could get a better amp (i.e The Roksan Kandy K2 or the LIII, even possibly a Cyrus 8vs2 with a matching power amp)!

Hi Dan the why, is simply i intend to listen to it, it's been recommending by quite a few people and would seem to be the next step up. However bear in mind i mentioned graded, so with the Roksan Kandy K2 being 900.00 a little out of my price range Smile, never heard the Cyrus yet either though

I bought my first 2 pairs of speakers, graded from richer sounds mail order. JPW Minim's then Mission 731i's. You talking 15 years ago or more but i found them to be as new condition.

the other thing is the roksan ;L111 seems to be fraught with problems, so i don't want to take that kind of shot in the dark

Sorry hifinewbie; I was referring to looking at the Roksan or Cyrus gear 2nd hand via Ebay or other hifi related forums.

All I'm saying is that demo first as I've found C/A gear to be quite clinical and forward.

The Roksans 2nd hand would be my movement for 2nd hand gear as would the Arcam A32 integrated amp or a Moon i-1 Smile

Gotcha, btw what do you mean by clinical?

Bright and forward sounding but also a bit reserved when it comes to bass punch and kick.

That can be said about Cyrus as well but I've found that Cyrus gear just tends to be more bright but with the right cables and speakers, and more so when bi-amped, that tends to disappear leaving you with a very fast and detailed soundstage but with plenty of oomph still.

I'd be having a look at the 840 alright; brilliant spec, innovative design. Graded stock, not an issue with it. You get a full guarantee, it'll have been back to base for a full servicing, so it's the next best thing to buying new and better than secondhand. No brainer.

i bought an unboxed CA Azur 740A last year for 300 instead of 500 just needed a baby wipe to clean it up. So for that price and nothing being wrong with it i see that as a good deal.
