I have listened to the AMS35 as well & its totally the opposite, actually a little too warn for my liking.. So it goes to show.. any amp can be made to sound horrible.
I suppose it depends on what speakers you pair it with.....matched with clean neutral ones, it sounds magic.
My current pet theory as to what might have happened, is that it was paired with speakers that have a Sensitivity of 84 dBs (and a benign impedance), which doesn't play to its strengths......and was then pushed too hard.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question! Yes, the amp was the new Elicit R. It is a full width design, very smart looking, and it sounded excellent - very detailed but also the typically persuasive and involving sound you expect from Rega. They were also using a new seperate phono stage which is about to be launched.
