When are the AVI ADM40s coming and how much will they be ?
Here's the Audio Sanctum home demo page with all relevant info - I liked this approach I must say, seems to be a good halfway house and the costs are relatively minimal.
Forget the hifi the shed is awesome i wonder how much it costs.
Audio sanctum offer free collection from train station, free tea or coffee & biscuits listen to hifi of your choice, sounds like a grand day out if you ask me, i suppose you would feel a bit guilty if you didn't buy anything.

+1. A friedn of mine is currently building a shed - around his hifi! Can't wait to see it.
I think the approach to demo-ing when the cutormer pays the shipping in case of not buying is very fair and allows for more availability of demos for the more obscure products. I hope AVI will think of something to avoid the 'made to order' restriction somehow.
So these ADM 40's, is there a way of bypassing the internal DAC gubbings to use solely as an active?

There are analogue inputs, so you can by-pass the DAC, and they remember the volume level that each input is set to independently, so you could use one of the analogue inputs as a fixed input by setting it to the appropriate volume and then not changing it, but you can't by-pass the circuitry of the pre-amp, if that makes sense.
edit - although presumably if you wanted to you could just order 2 of the 'slave' speakers which AFAIK are just an active speaker with an RCA input like any other
Here is the back of the master speaker

Yes.
There are 2 analogue inputs as well as the 4 digital. B
EDIT sorry when I posted Dans reply hadn't shown up.

Option 1 - Using the analogue inputs sounds like a good choice.
Option 2 - Ordering 2 slave speakers sounds like a bad choice. What makes the ADM series special are the remote controlled preamp and DAC. Take that away and you just have a pair of active speakers. If you later want to sell, I suspect it would be much harder to seduce buyers to take 2 slaves off your hand rather than a complete ADM40.

TBH I'd rather have two slaves. I'd like to choose preamp and DAC myself. I don't trust AVI... >)

If you don't trust AVI then you wouldn't even buy two slaves.

Are you sure you want to open that can of worms? The answers to questions like that are often the type that lead to threads being locked...

I'm assuming the '40s will be heavier.
If you wait a minute, I'm sure jcbrum will know (together with courier costs, if you have your postcode to hand).
