Whats the difference between new and secondhand cd's
My brother put a couple of links in a e-mail for two cd's he wants for christmas, but they were both for second hand i checked how much they would be for new & one of them was the same price & the other was only a couple of pounds more, i ordered them second hand but was perfectly happy to order them new.
Am i right in thinking that if i buy second hand that the money goes to the shop i'm buying from & not the artist, & if i'm buying new some money goes to the shop & some goes to the artist.
I wasn't happy about buying second hand as i felt the artist wasn't getting his money, am i right or wrong.
The artist still got their cut from the original purchase though
I know some don't agree with the resale of CDs, but why should the music industry be any different from any other
Dave, all your posts are extending way beyond the thread border, what's going on?

I've noticed it with at least half a dozen of Dave's posts over the last few days, but only with his posts. Weird...

What are you posting from?
Because whatever it is, it's putting a non-blank space HTML character between every word, which is making our renderer think your paragraphs are all one word.
I can probably get it to do it too if I edit the html of my post and put between every word like this, so that it does this
Droids various.
Droids various.
^^
So I'd suggest you try something else, or disable rich text...

You've got some wierd setting - all yours spaces are turning into non-breaking ones (nbsp)
We've had this debate before. And last time there was such a debate on here, someone even drew parallels between buying used CDs and illegal copying, which stunned me. I was amazed that some people have such strong (misguided) feelings about buying and selling second-hand media.
When you buy a new CD, record, DVD, BD disc or computer game, you're buying the right to access the piece of work on it, including paying the artist/creator, distributor, copyright-holder and publisher.
When you sell or give that media away, you hand over all your rights to access it to the next keeper, who doesn't need to pay any money to the artist/creator, distributor, copyright-holder and publisher – and nor should he – because essentially you paid that for him when you bought it brand new.
There’s no deception or underhanded dealings going on, it’s just the exact same copy of the exact same CD, record, DVD, BD disc or computer game, moving from keeper to keeper.
Nothings changed, other than not disabling rich text now.
But doing that now means my text disappears more often than it used to...
JD there's a Tapatalk module for Drupal I believe, can WHF look at installing it? Please.
I don't think anyone suggested there was, the OP just wanted to know if the artist gets anything if he buys second-hand.
Perhaps, but we're not having it now, as far as I can see.
Absolutely, I just wanted to nip it in the bud before it did get out of hand.
I did do a search before i posted but i didn't find anything.
Anyway i hit the buy button on the cd's before i posted & it just felt wrong.

The artist won't get anything if you buy second-hand no. If they were the same price why wouldn't you buy the new copy?
No signature worth mentioning...
