What's my weakest link. Comments appreciated
English

I recently upgraded my speakers which has got me thinking about the rest of my system. Of the components below, what's the weakest link?

Squeezebox Classic using FLAC

Rotel RA02 used as pre amp

Rotel RB06 power amp

Q Acoustics Concept 20 speakers

Mainly listen to electronic music and a bit of hip hop.

Nothing is glaring there IMO.  Are you pulled into the music by the system?  If you are, then stick with it.  Don't feel you HAVE to change anything else just because you have upgraded the speakers.

Rega RP3/Elys 2 - Graham Slee Gram Amp 1 - Rega Apollo R - Exposure 1010 amp - Dynaudio DM2/6 - Chord Co. Chameleon VEE3/Rumour 2 - Musical Fidelity V90-HPA - Sennheiser HD595

If you are using the dac in the classic, thats your weak point. I use a classic in my office system, and the cheap fiio dacs improved it quite a bit, it takes the classic up to the same sort of level as the touch. Tiny box, the digigal cable from Sb to it takes up more space than the dac.

No real weak links there IMO. But electronic and hip hop music tend to be bass driven genres with lots of deep bass so it may be worth considering some bigger speakers which would give you deeper bass than the Q Acoustics can.

Hi-Fi - Yamaha RX-V667 > AVI DM5 > AVI subwoofer

Head-Fi - Epiphany Acoustics EHP-O2Di > Sennheisser HD700

Portable - Sony NWZ-A847 > Westone UM3x

Thanks for the replies. I've only just got the speakers so don't want to change them. I did have much larger speakers (bowers 602s3) which gave me great bass, but I'm no longer a bass head!

I prefer the clarity and separation the new speakers bring.

The sound I have is good, but the new speakers have left me wanting more clarity.

I agree with Respe......try a better DAC.

I guess I'll have to start reading up on DACs as I know what they are, but that's about it.

Which Fiio DAC are you using?

In that case I'd agree with the other suggestions of trying a separate DAC as I've read that the old Squeezebox one isn't quite up to the same standard as the new one which is virtually transparent.

Either that or maybe try some different (more powerful) amplifiers to see how they sound with your speakers. Not that there's anything wrong with the one that you're already using.
