Hi all,

i bought recently the Pro-Ject stream box net. Although it's a decent equipment for its price i'm not impressed from the sound quality i get (sometimes no musical touch and quite electronic). I use a NAS 2tb and all 90% of my files are in flac audio format. My options in the near future (3-4 years) i suppose are two (in terms of cost): Connect the pro-ject to any reliable used external DAC or replace the Pro-Ject stream box for any used higher quality streamer (like Naim). Given the fact that music streamers is a relatively new market i suppose that finding any used piece is difficult of course...Moreover, many people say that a minimum of 1000 euro is necessary to spend over any used good quality DAC in order to hear any audible improvement. So what do you think?

Regards,

Harry

I think a Sonos Connect would be perfect, No?

Have to second the Sonos system.

So flexible with a soundbar also on the way to complete the family. And the after sales service is great.

I run the system through my stereo amp from a NAS drive with WAV files as well as Spotify and have been very happy for years.

Also have a play 5 in most rooms and kids love being able to play their own choice of music in their rooms, as well as in the garden and garage etc....

hi harry, before giving you recommendations it would be nice to know what the rest of your kit is....a naim streamer would be overkill in  a lot of systems and I wouldn't recommend spending 1000 pounds on a dac if the rest of your system isn't similarly priced.

Shafesk thanks for your reply!

My hi-fi system consists also of an integrated amp primare a30.1 and a pair of triangle celius 202 speakers. Many told me from the start that i should go to the Naim nd5xs. Due to extra cost issues i decided not to. The truth is that i was able to enjoy music much better with my previous source ( a primare cd21 player) and i sold it mainly due to convenience in order to buy the pro-ject streamer... Sad
