It's bad news, gents. Absolute Sounds received their batch of Devs from the factory this week, but apparently only half the quantity they asked for. My dealer says he's only getting one Dev 170, and I was second on his list. Apparently the next delivery will be mid-October. There's some talk of problems with the manufacture of the latest run, which have been resolved, but have slowed the factory's output.
I'm dealing with my frustration by telling myself that the Dev is sooo good that it'd be worth waiting a year for.
Oh, blast! I'm probably some 2000 places further on the list... No wonder my dealer doesn't respond my email!
Get a refund and buy a Marantz, you know it makes sense.......
You are a real friend, Dave!
You wanna come out in the carpark and say that?
What classical music are you listening to?
O my word Matt! How frustrating!
How about O'Briens? or would it be the same story there.
Cheers, Mac, I suspect it would, though I might call them tomorrow. They have a hotline to Absolute Sounds -- which is next door to them. But to be fair to my dealer, he did say he would get Absolute Sounds to call me and confirm the situation, if I wanted.
I'm developing the patience of a saint.
I know, I know. Fortunately there's lots of stuff going on here to take my mind off it.
Be strong, Doc. You know it's worth waiting!
I hear the PM6005 is very good. Apparently some dealers will actually supply you one in exchange for money.........
I'd offer to help but I never had much pull at AS, even when I was a dealer. Mind you it is an interesting comment on the state of the economy that £5k hi-fi components have a waiting list that stretches into months.......
We do so many shows in a row,
And these towns all look the same,
We just pass the time in our hotel room
And wander 'round backstage,
Till the lights come up, and we hear that crowd,
And we remember why we came.
Odd things happening! I just called my dealer. He then contacted the distributor, who told him the amps had been shipped last week -- but apparently never arrived in his shop. He 's now gonna hunt down the courier!
All very exciting, innit?
So a lorry full of Devialets is hijacked in Belgium (stop me if I'm getting this wrong) and driven down to the Balkans, where the units are re-engineered by the local organized crime syndicate for use as stealth drone pizza boxes.
Keep us posted!
They say witnesses saw a UFO above the lorry, stealing the Devs with some kind of laserbeam! I'm very worried! And glad I didn't pay an advance...
Back in the late 80s and early 90's, one of our favourite amplifiers was the Onix OA21.
One day we were scheduled a delivery of these about lunchtime, no delivery but just before closing a somewhat out of breath Tony Brady (Mr Onix) turned up, claiming he had just had to hitch hike up to London from a service station on the M23.
He explained that his car, chock full of our OA21s, was stolen while he was grabbing a coffee, never to be seen again. We told our waiting customers that we thought the amplifiers had been 'abducted by aliens'.
But as you say, maybe the Balkan mafia.........
i think its that 35 hour working week here in france not enougth time for work to make the amp and smoke and enjoy coffee :rofl:but did you hear it with the kef 700 just wondering if it was any good
Chris, I haven't heard Devs with any KEF speakers, but I can't imagine the combo would sound anything less than excellent. Are you thinking of going down the Dev road? Have you heard a Dev? Interested to hear about your experiences.
We told our waiting customers that we thought the amplifiers had been 'abducted by aliens'.
I'm sure the customers were well satisfied by your explanation. Did you also give them something to smoke when they came to the shop?
Dealer called! It's arrived! But I probably won't have the time to collect it before next friday...
Oooh, breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out...
Hey, good man!
But a whole week before you collect it? That's going to test your patience a bit. And what if the dealer gets burgled by that Balkan crime syndicate?
EDIT PS what speakers do you have lined up?
Many of our customers knew Tony (Mr Onix) pretty well, he would often hang out ot the shop and get the beers in later, he was a smashing bloke, if perhaps a little bit scatty business wise.
They kind of understood.
Yes, the shop is closed on Friday and Saturday (Sabbath). Can't make it on Sunday (my grandma gives a party for her 102th birthday!). And I have to work next week... The shop is in the Antwerp diamond district, so I guess Balkan criminals would have other priorities there (cross my fingers)!
What speakers do you have lined up?
Well, I hope to demo the PMC Twenty:22 and the Neat Momentum 3i [which I don't expect to sound good close to the front wall, but you never know ]. I asked for the AN-J too, but Audio Note speakers seem hard to get in Belgium.
The rest of my (so far very short) longlist is to be auditioned with other dealers (Vivid V1.5, Diapason Adamantes, Guru QM10, JM Raynaud Bliss; I might give the M30.1 another try too).
