Monday night music club here at work, put together a nice spread.
Avid Acutus SP with SME V and Kontrapunkt H
Lehman Silver cube phono amplifier
Devialet D-premier used as a pre-amplifier
Musical Fidelity AMS50
So far, in my experience, the best overall perfoming system I have heard.
I can see why......and I'm not often envious, but............
"Everything has been said before, but since nobody listens we have to keep going back and beginning all over again." André Gide
Here were three good'ns:
3. Room 57 (Audio Note): http://www.adventuresinhifiaudio.com/19/11/2010/northern-ireland-audio-s...
EDIT. If I had to chose one, it would be the Audio Note.....though that would change if I heard the right amp between the Klimax DS and the Blades (eg. MF Primo / AMS 100)
Naim 5i amp/cd and neat motive 2 speakers.
When I demoed my system a few years back it was the best, i was richer back then and willing to spend more but couldn't find/hear better, just different.
Guess for my old ears that's my limit...! Will be keeping it for a good few more years.
Rega RP3 turntable/Naim 5i CD/Naim 5i amp/Neat motive 2/BK sub

A pair of B&O Beolab 5 playing a David Gilmour Live in Gdansk Blu-Ray. Unreal.
Second would be a very highly specced Linn LP12 through some 802's via a pair of Classe amps. Still didnt match the B&O though.
Mac Mini > Chordette Peach + Sony CDP707ES + Arcam CD 73 + Quad FM4
Arcam A28 + Sony TA-FA 777ES
Naim Naca 5
So you basically used the Devialet as a volume control? Wicked!
.....Well, Class A Pre.....
There's a few:
Quad electrostatics in large rooms - various models with various front end and amps playing string quartets. Reach out and touch each individual instrument.
Rowland amps into Wilson Watt Puppy 7's. Really nice all round sound - at a breathaking price.
Modded Lenco into DIY horns in a large room - no major sonic weaknesses at all. Good all round sound.
Studer into EV Patricians with live recordings at loud volumes. This is as close as I've heard a hi-fi come to a live rock concert. Eye watering software costs.
Coincident Frankenstein into Vaughn Cabernets. Probably the best smallish system I've heard.
Best system.......would that be the one which gave the most enjoyable listening experiences ?
In that case it was probably my rubbish Aiwa midi system with Wharfedale speakers when I was a teenager, I tended to just listen to the music then rather than the system.
Why did you stop?
Mac mini > AVI ADM9Ts
Rick @ Musicraft - How do you find those ATC100's for stereo only, on their own without a sub? Still the best or would other systems climb to the top?
It doesn't have the best sound quality by a long shot, but the system that I've used the most and gives me the most enjoyment would be a £14 X-Mini 2 portable speaker which plugs into my MP3 player.
PC > AVI Neutron Five 2.1
Sony NWZ-A847 64GB Walkman > Westone UM3x
I used to work for roberts radios.
Speaking of which...
... I used Roberts radios for two and a half decades from a second hand (but mint) R707 then an R900 and finally an R737. After that we moved to Pure and now Ruark.
The R707 was the best sounding one of the lot before I got the Ruark R1. (The Ruark will take a lot to beat and the current Roberts range are a shadow of their older products.)

Well as my disposable income rose I started buying fancy gear, then cables, measuring the positions of the speakers toe in, polishing my plugs, cutting squash balls in half to stand my gear on etc etc sound familiar. What I wasn't doing was listening to the music anymore, instead, I was always trying the next upgrade or tweek looking for 'audio nivarna'.
