Best spent was 2p on my turntable, or rather under it. It was just what was needed to perfectly level the thing.

Best saving was buying a cartridge direct from dealer in Japan. It's outrageous the mark-up that UK dealers must be applying to kit they sell /attempt to persuade you to buy!! Angry

And the same for a lot of UK kit here in Japan. I figured out it would be cheaper to fly to the UK and buy myself a pair of Proac speakers than to buy them in store here.

I've added various tweaks which I've liked, but nothing made as much of a difference as adding a small sub for around 200 pounds. Probably made a bigger difference than my switch from B&W 685 speakers to PMC DB1i,

I would be very careful with ear candles. My doctor warned me off. Have a look at http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/candling.html

Of course they are your ears...

I bought an Audiolab 8000C and 8000p combo at a hifi shop. they didnt work and they didnt have the time to check what was wrong. I bought it for 50 Euro. I only had to replace the fuses Smile

Placed the cd player on the floor rather than the rack. Much tighter sound.

Have my ears cleaned at local hospital every 3 months.

The third upgrade is to send the wife out shopping so that you can listen in peace and quiet. However, this is not cheap!!!

Not especially cheap at £55 but excellent results - Oriton Black Bullets.

Purchased a pair this week and feel like I have a new, more powerful amp!

Not worrying about stuff that makes no difference...cables, "bullets", "pasta"etc and just enjoying the actual music

Made myself a pair of these - http://www.venhaus1.com/diycatfivecables.html

Absolutely worth it and I will never buy another cable again. Also paid attention to room layout and speaker placement. Blue tac was invented for audio! Thanks.

RE: The Best and Cheapest upgrades you've ever made?

I have to put this one in . . . for those who have followed the thread,'from a chair to a TT shelf' in the TT thread, I apologise for the repeat:

This was, a week ago, an old and battered 'bent wood, cottage style, slat back, arm chair'.  Cost me nothing, has sat in the back of my shed for 10 years, as an 'I will use it one day' potential project? . . . The only bit that is not of the chair is the isolation board and even that is edged with the slat wood that made the chair back . . . the board is a 30 years old relic of my previous life.

Removing the book shelf/cupboard which the shelf replaces has opend the sound, not only that, because the room is a small cottage living room, the extra space has made the room more light and airy as well, a double benefit!

All this loverly hifi sound for nothing . . . beauty, eh
