Hi. I have a quick question about upgrading my hifi setup.

I currently have a Cambridge Audio 540R AV receiver running as a stereo amplifier. I use this to power a pair of Mordaunt-Short 904 Avant speakers. I also have a 'homemade' sub (Celestion amp + cheap driver) that works pretty well.

I am thinking of selling both the Mordaunt-Shorts and the sub. I would replace these with B&W DM603 S3's only.

What are peoples opinions on this upgrade, positives & negatives?

Regards

Freddie

Hi Freddie, and welcome.

What is it about your system you don't like? And what is your ballpark budget?

The reason for asking is that the MS were pretty good in their day.

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

A few reasons really. The bass produced from the sub feels very crude and 'disco' like. However if I run the MS's without the sub, they feel like they're lacking in low end power. I would rather a better set speakers rather than compromise with a sub.

I would rather a second hand set of speakers because I can get more for the money. I've spotted a good set of B&W's on ebay locally.

£200 - £250 from ebay is my budget really.

Cheers

Freddie
