it seems that you just want to write off the CR603...!

have you actually heard it with the speakers mentioned in this thread including the much more expensive speakers such as the GB1is or the Motive 2s? If not I'd say you need o before you keep writing off the 603! Having heard it with those speakers and more or less all the others mentioned at the older KEFs and side by side with the 6003 & 6004 components I know for a fact (and the guys at the shops agreeedv& were amazed) that the 603 is a very decent piece of kit!

To be fair, the R100s are £599 and the BX2s are £225.

One would hope the R100s were a league apart given the £374 difference in price.

Absolutely as its already been mentioned a few posts back...

But it does show how a bit more £££ can have a major effect on a system Smile

I do not write off the MCR603. It's a nice system. I compared it with a Marantz PM6003/CD6003 combination and this combination sounded miles better. Just MY opinion, nothing to worry about.

Cypher, recruiter is not alone in this. I too have the BX2s, and while they do many things right, musicality isn't their strong suit.

manicm ; that's not a problem. Everyone has different ears. EVERY product will always have people who like it and people who don't.

That's not in dispute, but I certainly would disagree with you in saying the OP should flog his Marantz CR603. Matthewpiano also found similar traits with the BX2. It's a very good speaker in many respects, but it seems to prefer warmer equipment - either amplification or source. And I wouldn't call my Arcam Solo Mini bright by any stretch of my ears. CDs through my 751BD improve things a bit - which gives some weight to my argument about the speaker. For CD playback the 751 is a tad richer, fuller than my Arcam's CD section, and so works better with the BX2. With my previous speakers - B&W 685s and CA Minx 20/X300 I never noticed this trait that much.

Hi Manicm

No, they had to be ordered. I'l be picking them up mid-week. I heard them set up close to to the walls though, which is how i'll have them set-up and they sounded superb. Stunning bass (much better controlled than the Bx2's) and beautiful clarity and tone which is what I was missing.

My BX2's now have aronund 150hrs on them and while the bass has tightened up they are just not in the same league as the R100's for sound quality.

The R100's must be letting out the max from the MCR603 and if ever the MCR603 is upgraded no need for a speaker upgrade too!

I'll update you when i have these at home up and runnning.....Can't wait!!
