tino1104 ; you don't have do anything. You said the BX2/MCR603 didn't sound good together. I think the problem is the MCR603, not the speakers. I just gave my opinion.
it seems that you just want to write off the CR603...!
have you actually heard it with the speakers mentioned in this thread including the much more expensive speakers such as the GB1is or the Motive 2s? If not I'd say you need o before you keep writing off the 603! Having heard it with those speakers and more or less all the others mentioned at the older KEFs and side by side with the 6003 & 6004 components I know for a fact (and the guys at the shops agreeedv& were amazed) that the 603 is a very decent piece of kit!
Living room: iTunes to ATV 2 (via AirPlay) to Cyrus 8 DAC with KEF LS50 speakers - Tellurium Q Blue cables
Spare room: Marantz CR603, AirPlay, Monitor Audio RX2's - Chord Odyssey 2 cables
To be fair, the R100s are £599 and the BX2s are £225.
One would hope the R100s were a league apart given the £374 difference in price.
Marantz M-CR603 • Rega R3 loudspeakers • AirPlay • Apple iPad Mini • Apple iPhone 5 • Apple iMac • Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11N • Humax HDR-Fox T2 • Panasonic TX-L32D25B • Sony BDP-S390
Absolutely as its already been mentioned a few posts back...
But it does show how a bit more £££ can have a major effect on a system
Just demo'd the MCR603 with the Kef R100's.....Superb.... Ordered a pair!!
They match very well indeed and they are leagues apart from the MA BX2s
Yes you were spot on they are are twice as good as my old Q35.2's with the MCR603
Panasonic TX-L42WT50B TV, Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Blu Ray, Virgin Tivo, Ruark Audio R4i, Marantz M-CR603, Kef R100 speakers...Cables....Audioquest FLX SLiP 14/4 speaker cables, Audioquest HDMI's, TCI Coral Optical + Clearer Audio Silverline, Merlin Terantula MK6 and Tacima CS929.
I do not write off the MCR603. It's a nice system. I compared it with a Marantz PM6003/CD6003 combination and this combination sounded miles better. Just MY opinion, nothing to worry about.
Cypher, recruiter is not alone in this. I too have the BX2s, and while they do many things right, musicality isn't their strong suit.
Arcam Solo Mini/Monitor Audio RX1/Cambridge Audio 751BD/Samsung 37” LCD
manicm ; that's not a problem. Everyone has different ears. EVERY product will always have people who like it and people who don't.
That's not in dispute, but I certainly would disagree with you in saying the OP should flog his Marantz CR603. Matthewpiano also found similar traits with the BX2. It's a very good speaker in many respects, but it seems to prefer warmer equipment - either amplification or source. And I wouldn't call my Arcam Solo Mini bright by any stretch of my ears. CDs through my 751BD improve things a bit - which gives some weight to my argument about the speaker. For CD playback the 751 is a tad richer, fuller than my Arcam's CD section, and so works better with the BX2. With my previous speakers - B&W 685s and CA Minx 20/X300 I never noticed this trait that much.
Yes they were leagues apart and I got a good discount on them too so even better
Congrats. The R100's are amazing speakers. And better than the BX2 of course
I assume you now have these at home, if so how far from the walls have you connected the R100s?
No, they had to be ordered. I'l be picking them up mid-week. I heard them set up close to to the walls though, which is how i'll have them set-up and they sounded superb. Stunning bass (much better controlled than the Bx2's) and beautiful clarity and tone which is what I was missing.
My BX2's now have aronund 150hrs on them and while the bass has tightened up they are just not in the same league as the R100's for sound quality.
The R100's must be letting out the max from the MCR603 and if ever the MCR603 is upgraded no need for a speaker upgrade too!
I'll update you when i have these at home up and runnning.....Can't wait!!
Just for info they were tested with this music. Don't know your musical taste!!
Stevie Ray Vaughn---Texas flood
Stevie Ray Vaughn---The sky is crying
Stevie Ray Vaughn---Wham
North Mississippi Allstars---Shake em on down
Lexington---Elephant revival (bass so boomy on BX2’s)
Alison Kraus and Union Station---The boy who wouldn’t hoe corn
Alison Kraus and Union Station---We hide and seek-Live at Louisville Palace
Queen---Too much love will kill you
John Mayer---Gravity---Live at the Nokia Theatre
Adele---Set fire to the rain
Well....The r100's are home, up and running.........stunning sound and from the off!
Can't wait for them to run in as I'm very impressed straight out of the box!!
Glad you're all sorted
