Should i upgrade from 2050i to Kef Q500? the Kefs sounded lifeless but maybe they are not run in?
my local dealer is willing to part with kef q500 for around £400 and I thought it would be a good chance to upgrade. I heard them with a 673 Yamaha AV amp and they sounded pretty lifeless tbh! They are completely sealed units and have no ports therefore there was no bass at all. Not what I would expect from a floor stander! I was drawn to them because no port at the back means I can put them close to a wall but no port at all was showing no bass.
but I was advised that they may not have been run in since they are fairly new. Anyone who has these speakers provided and insight if the run in time is long? My 2050i took 150hours minimum to run in. Before that they were not very good at all. Now they are very good though.
So the reason for the switch of speakers is that I want to extend the Q acoustics range to a 5.1 system and move into my other room so I'm looking for 2 new speakers but they Have to be better than my Q acoustics otherwise no point in buying them.
Im driving them with an AS500 Yamaha amp.
Alternatively I can get the B&w 684 floorstanders ex demo for £160 more but since their port is on the back, I can't put them close to the rear wall. That's the problem with the 2050i they are too far from the wall for the family's liking
any help would be great and if you think my amp can even drive the Kef or B&W
