I've had my MISSION MX5  almost a year now but I must admit I'm continually drawn to the Proacs in the title.  I've purchased a Roksan kandy K2 integrated 1. For it's increased power and 2. For connect my receiver via the bypass input 3. the built in phono stage  to connect my turntable . However, the Proac itch is still there and I'm on the verge of asking my local shop for a demo and trade in for my MISSION MX5 . Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on the match?  Anything else to consider, perhaps QUADRAL PALTINUM M4 or FOCAL CHOROUS 816 V or 826 V ?

Try and listen to as many brands as you you can.

I would include Kef R Series, PMC, Spendor A series, Vienna Acoustics and Sonus Faber....if available.

As always, most of it comes down to personal preference (and your room of course, some speakers are just fussy). I love the Sutdio 140 Mk2, probably even prefer them to the D18s. Not a fan of KEFs and would also put them above the Toy Towers, which are the SF for similar price. Go out and listen, and plese come back to share your experience. There are quite a few good speakers in that price range IMO.

I have no idea about the Quadral, but the Focal are quality speakers, which have a presentation, which for my taste is too forward, unless matched with Valves or SS Class A......on the other hand, you may like them.

RE: Proac Studio 140 Mk2 Yes or no ?

Hi,

I have the speakers mentioned and I am very happy with them, I demo'd many speakers Dynaudio,B&W, MA, Wharfedale, PMC, Spendor, Harbeth, Proac and settled with the 140's which suited my taste.
I do like a lot of bass, many people could be put off by this but I think they are hugely enjoyable, I don't think they are bright as have heard some comment.

If I was looking again I would look at the Proac's, PMC 23, Spendor A6, Kef R500/700 but these would all to be partnered with a Capian not a Kandy.

I can not comment about your other choices but echo what others say to listen to as many as you can. When upgrading all my initial on paper choices got disregarded once I started listening to more brands otherwise I would have an Audiolab CM8 pairing which I now know I would hate !

The only thing I can add is that when I listened to the Kandy next to the Caspian, I noticed a huge difference between how the Caspian drove the speakers and I can not say how well the Kandy would drive the 140's, I did not feel the Caspian got the best out of the D18's unless the volume was at the 10 mark or higher.

I also try and give the speakers as much room as possible to get the best out of them, if you have a large room you will get more out of the speakers.Be careful if you have a small room as they might be a bit boomy.

Good luck in your search, probably not much help really.

Have fun.

The Caspian is also a Roksan amp.

http://www.roksan.co.uk/

The M2 range sits above the K2 range, and the whilst the K2 has more power on paper, it's output stage is very different from the M2. The latter will drive the 140 MKII and the D18 with ease, though I suspect the K2 will not get the best out of the D18 (which is what I think Shanka meant).

Personally I have not heard the 140s, but I have the D18s as you can see in my sig. I have read (maybe even in WHF) that they can be a bit bass light, I beg to differ. Compared to my old setup of Kandy K2 + Spendor S6e, these are much much more extended and controlled. In fact, it's the sheer slam and control of bass that's added a whole new level of realism into my system. I woiuld be surprised if the 140s are massively different in that respect

I am saying I don't know, you would have to listen for yourself, I have not heard the Kandy with the 140's, I find the Caspian drives them easily but it has more drive than the Kandy,I don't honestly know why as the Kandy has higher wattage.
It may well be great.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Kandy I very nearly bought one and the 140's are a very good speaker, listening to Nick Drake as I write and sounds fabulous, if that's your thing !

The output stage of the Kandy is quite different (uses mosfets for a start) to the M2. The K2 will on paper generate a higher rated output into a fixed load, but doesn't have the same rise time as the M2, which is I suspect some kind of hybrid class A (hence the in-built cooling fans and thermal cut out).

RE: Proac Studio 140 Mk2 Yes or no ?

Nice one Steve, thanks.

Should just add to the OP that I listen mainly at low volume levels, usually about 8 on the amp not often more than 9.

If you are able to crank up more than that on a regular basis the Kandy may be fine. It's a very good amp.

Keep us posted on what you find, maybe David at Frank Harvey would give a better assessment when he signs in.
I am sure he will have heard the pairing.

Not if this test has any validity:
