I think pp is right.  I doubt the system you are considering really merits the tag hi-fi.  It is more of a ghetto blaster in separate boxes.

Richer Sounds do some modest systems at similar prices that IMO do qualify, and the relatively modest size of the speakers reveal the quality -v- quantity point that pp makes.  The used route is a bargain for the asking but is not risk-free.

If you cannot hear the mail order system, or have it on home trial, then don't risk it.  It would be as daft as buying wallpaper over the 'phone.

Welcome to the forum!

I would be really surprised if that system can produce 600W of quality power. Trouble with set ups like this are that all the brands are virtually unknown. I would look for some more main stream products for which you can find some reviews as a starting point. Having a listen is essential, most people selling second hand will demo their equipment for you.

Take your time.

That amp doesn't weigh much for one that can supposedly summon up 600w output.  It can't have any decent sort of transformer or heat sinking in there at that weight.  Big power with quality doesn't come that cheap.

Cheap rubbish by the look of it.  PP's advice is spot-on.

RE: Quick advice on a hifi system

cheers guys

well ive done a daft thing and purchased a system.. through paypal.. also spoke to them on the phone and theres a 30 day cooling off period so worst comes to worst, ill get a full refund for it.. i found reviews of the speakers and people say that they are quite decent, only with a better amplifier..

one of the systems said this:

this is the amp that was part of the package

http://www.hifi-tower.co.uk/Auna-AV2-H388-HDMI-Amplifier-Surround-Sound-...

its a hdmi amplifier and it says.. Please note that the HDMI inputs only serve to connect the signal through the HDMI output. A direct reproduction of an HDMI audio signal via the amplifier is not possible.

what does that mean banging head against wall .. i just want it to work through my ps3 with hdmi..

overall im just guessing that I made a schoolboy error?

It's only a schoolboy error if you're not happy with the sound. Don't judge it on first listen either. Most components can take a number of hours to 'bed in/break in/burn in' - whatever you want to call it - so you'll probably find the sound will change after a week's serious listening.

You've got me.shifty

It sounds like it'll do source switching for you for pass-through of visuals, but that it won't do any actual decoding of surround sound formats.... But this is just speculation...

My speculation is the same as

My speculation is the same as BC.  Sounds like pass through only, in which case it falls at the first hurdle if your source is a PS3.

The only info I can find is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auna.

Hope you like parties. Smile

Perhaps in isolation, and after some burn-in time, you'll like it.

Good luck, pp
