I have a Yamaha with Pioneer speaker and B&O Boecenter/speakers.

However, the MAIN REASON for joining is to learn from 'experts' what to look for and what to avoid. I am planning to start a HIFI setup and expand into homecinema later.

I am looking for a pair of speakers and an integrated amp for starters (with HT in mind for future expansion). I have audition LS50 (not satisfied with the bass output unfortunately), R700, Monitor Audio RX6, B&W CM9, JBL LS80.

I have also in mind for amp to buy the Creek evolution 5350, Rotel or Audiolab 8200A... but I can NOT audition all of them together with all combinations. CnoEVIL has been quite helpful and would like more suggestions so as to 'un-confuse' myself from all the 'reading'..

Can you list what speakers you can hear with what amps.

How did you think the R700s compared to the LS50s, and what amp was driving them?

I think it would be worth hearing Creek (preferably Destiny) with Kef R700s....if this is possible.

Okey Doke. Everyone on here is an expert ,lol.

Now I know where you are based it would help if you could list what brands you can source locally. This is important as buying blind on recommendations from folk on here is a nogo in my book. If you are going to go down that route be prepared to be dissapointed.

You really must audition pairings. Cno would no way say 'yeah buy that amp with those speakers' trust me on that score. They are suggestions for you to audition.

Take your time and get it right.

I know him well, and that is exactly what he'd say.  excellent!

I believe this thread is purely academic, (as most of the brands I listed are not available in Cyprus)......ie. To allow the OP to get a feel for what "synergy" is all about.

RE: 'Possible' Amplifier & Speaker combinations

I have heard the Creek Evolution 5350 amp with various Dynaudio speakers.

It was a good combination, and the amp itself appears to be of very good quality.

In my own HIFI system I use a Cambridge amp with Dynaudio.

That's also a good combo.

Hope that helps.

Best,

Henrik

To make it even MORE interesting you can aslo drop a sub combination in the list.

Subs are a different proposition.

It is only necessary to get a good one, with the SQ and features that you need (eg. EQ, ported/sealed and connectivity)

Brands that I rate are;

BK (VFM)

Velodyne (DD and Ultra Series)

Paradigm (eg Seismic 110)

SVS (SB 13 Plus)

KK Sound

Rel

B&W (PV1D)

RE: 'Possible' Amplifier & Speaker combinations

Well guys......

I prefered the LS50s to the R700s, more clear mids, though I needed more bass... The amp used was a UNISON RESEARCH one.

I have just heard the Monitor Audio RX8 with an Accuphase amp. They sounded quite airy.

I have also heard ProArc with Unison Reserch and Phono playing. They were very warm sounding. Nice.. However I mostly heard Rock, easy listening and Modern music

The other combinations I can audition are:

1 B&W with Rotel, Krell or Denon amp

2 PROAC with Creek and Unison Research

3 No audition for DALI

4 JBL with Marantz

and thats about it. However, I am willing to hear what your saying and maybe I can audition them somewhere on a trip....specifically for this

I am a bit of a specs guy myself (unfortunately) and I am looking at LS50 and Audiolab 8200A marriage (not combo silenced ) just from what I read (I KNOW I HAVE UPSET ALOT OF GUYS NOW Sorry twisted ). Thats why i need to be set in the right direction.

I could add to that Creek 5350 (will have to see about Destiny) or Rotel. But BASS IS JUST NOT THERE!!!

Well if you had cut to the chase in the first place  Wink.

At this stage in the game throw your 'specs guy head' in the bin.

What was the Unison ?.

Cno just knew I was going to ask that by the way .

Amps, especially ones of a different Class (A; B; A/B; D) and types (SS/ Hybrid/Valve) can completely change the sound.

I suspect the amp you heard was a UR Unico Primo, which is a hybrid (valve pre) which has a smoother warm type of sound, and would have sounded good with the LS50, but might lack a bit of bass.

To get the most out of the R700s you might have to go full Solid State, or go further up the UR Unico ladder (eg.. Secondo)

IMO. It is worth noting, the better the speaker, the better the amp needs to be to drive it properly.

I don't know which Proacs you heard but it's worth noting that the Proac D18 and Studio 140 are voiced slightly differently.

I would expect the B&W to sound best with Krell.

There are 2 variables that you need to take into account:

1. The Room....don't underestimate this, as a system can sound very different when tried at home.

2. The Source....Quality and Type (TT/CDP/Streamer etc)

IMO. You can change the way an amp sounds, by selecting a speaker that has completely different characteristics....and Vica Versa.

One final bit of advice.....listen to as many different pairings as possible, and go with what makes you smile, without worrying what anyone else says. Then when you know what you want, it is advisable to get a home demo before committing.

**Took this to mean Primo, but now think that's incorrect!

I'm not familiar enough with the current Rels to advise. I used to like the old models of Stampede, Strata and Storm.

As a specialist Sub manufacturer, they make a decent product.
