Piega Premium 5.2 - which amplifier?
English

Hi,

After one year (!) searches and hesitations, I took the decision to buy a pair of loudspeakers PIEGA Premium 5.2. I love the design and the quality of the finishes, and the sound seems very good to my non professionnal ears.

The question is now the following one: which amplifier?

I know, the choice will depend of the sound effect I would prefer, when working with the Piega Premium 5.2. But, first, the question is technical: what amplifier would be technically ok to work with the Piega.

I was told about the NAD C326bee (possibly customized by Rowen), but I have a doubt. Is it strong enough?

All proposal would be welcomed.

Thank you in advance.

Hi zoro,

That's a pair of smart speakers you have!

I notice a 91 dB sensitivity in the specs, so Watts shouldn't be the main issue (just 8 W will give you 100 dB at 1 metre).

Having a 4 Ohm nominal impedance, they will like a high current amp, though. What is your budget?

And what's your room like? Your taste in music? Do you play it loud?

Piega announces that 20w power will be enough to drive them. So the 50w of your Nadbeerowen will be enough. As you said, it's a real matter of tastes. The Piega are very neutral with light lacking of bass. I'm sure the Bee will do his job well.

I was living near the factory before and was there a couple of times. It's just swiss work at it's best with peoples that know what they do and that do it the best.

Thank you both of you for yours answers.

@DocG: budget: I want to do the necessary effort to have a suitable amplifier, which will do a good job, so that the Piega are not wasted ; the room is quite big, open with kitchen, dining room, living and a passage, for a total of something like 75 m2 (but when I relax in the living, I am not more than about 4-5 meters from the loudspeakers; type of music: I am ecletic, but I mainly listen to pop/rock; finally, I do not listen to music loud (I have neighbors!).

If you don't need high SPLs, I think that a NAD would be a sensible choice, even in your rather large room. A C326BEE would probably do the job nicely. I don't know the mod you mention, but IMO with some extra budget you might be better off with a C356BEE that with a modded 326. Can you demo them side by side?

Thanks.

Sorry, but what is SPL?

You are right, the best to do would be to compare the NAD 326 and the NAD 326 by Rowen in the same time (Rowen is a swiss company specialized in Hifi, with an excellent reputation, developer of its own equipment (for example loudspeakers), importer of NAD in Switzerland, which upgrades some of the NAD equipments.

Sorry for the confusion. SPL is "sound pressure level", how loud you play your music. Smile
