Good choice.......I think!
"Everything has been said before, but since nobody listens we have to keep going back and beginning all over again." André Gide
He loaned me Audioquest Optilink, straight into the back of the Arcam
(Ah, before anyone pulls me up on my comments a couple of weeks ago, the past and a week and a half has been hidious with poxy computers. Choked me off streaming in the short/medium term).
The dealer offered me a ex-dem Nait CD5i for £650. I asked him how it compares to the Rega dac and Arcam used as transport: "Don't know. Would you like to try one at home?" How could I refuse.
So far, although growing on me slowly, sounds pretty good.
Don't have to think, Cno. My main critisism of the Apollo was it sounded a little thin, exaggerating the top-end of the RS6s. The Dac is the opposite.
Originally went in there for a chin-wag about speakers - heard the PMC 23s and sounded really impressive. Have to save the pennies for those, though.
This all sounds very encouraging.
Thats the WAY PP, i love my Rega DAC, what the heck, I LOVE ALL MY REGA GEAR !!!
But the DAC was my first, and it changed my live, then came the Brio R and from no where i didn't even thought about a TT but it just follow me home...
I could not leave the pour thing out in the could raind...
have you played with the filters? Do you ear any difference between them?
Eeeezeee... Dac very much a possible maybe, likewise RP6 (although not taken by the hidious colours), but swap the Leema for the Brio-R? Think you have more chance of seeing hell freeze over.
Let's get realistic: I've really nothing to compare the Rega with - had the DacMagic for about a month and hated the clinical edge.
Ah, while I remember: When I spoke to the nice chappy about turntables and told him about the ClearAudio I purchased from that shop, and he reckons it'll blow the Rega cartridge away. Interesting that a Rega dealer trying to sell a Rega deck recommends a ClearAudio cart.
There may be the very odd exception but price for price Rega cartridges have always been trounced by mainstream cartridge manufacturers.
That all may about to change though with the new RP8 / Apheta combo.

Eazy! I was not suggestig that you should buy the Brio R or a Rega TT, I was using my exemple, as i bought almoust a all Rega System, to telling you how much i love this brand components, just that PP.
But for the money is my opinion that you can't get a better DAC!
But for £40 more you could! (Audiolab M-DAC), in my very humble opinion.
I know how much you love Rega - can honestly see the appeal. In some respects they have a similar tonal quality to Arcam, but IMO, look a little whackier than the Cambridge enigma.
I'll give a full summary of the DAC tomorrow night.
I've had the amp/CDP/DAC on since 4pm this afternoon, so I'm giving it a good musical test. As I mentioned before it looks quite promising as this stage.
Have to admit I'm tempted by the Naim offer, especially as he'll offer me £200 for my Arcam (with box).
