old compared to new

was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on monitor audio studio 20se speakers compared to the newer models of gold signature 20's or reference 20's . How do the old original version which won many an acolade compare to todays models considering prices they will be now and sound ??is it wise to go old or better t go new , does newer necessarily mean better?
