The worst thing is all the kit is stacked up around me in the office and I'm itching to get stuck in to it but I'll have 8 men standing around in the morning if I don't get these loading lists done. Flicking back and forth from this forum all day in the vain hope I'll read some ground breaking piece of set up wisdom is not helping me either
Now you mention it though, I do feel a bit peaky But by the time I've managed to set it all up it will be Monday at best. I'm not confident I'm going to get it right first time
The only helpful advice I can give, is dont short the amp by messing with the speaker cables with the amp on. I did that once and I don't recommend it

Marantz CD6004, Roksan Kandy K2 and MF M1-DAC. All still in the box and unsused.
I have a bag full of old cables of almost every kind in the cupboard under the stairs (along with two spare sets of good speakers and an old DAC and a set of Partington Trophy speaker stands).
I'm only a second-hand amp away from having an entire DAC sourced spare system.
I thought everyone had a cupboard/shed/attic with useful old hi-fi bits
I can't say I have a shed full of bits of old Hifi, but I do have a tendency to move older kit into another room. Hence me having systems in my living room, bedroom and kitchen, with a Hifi rig by the mac.
But thats normal, isn't it?
Completely normal, unless I'm not normal that is.....

I'm quite excited for him
Marantz CD6004, Roksan Kandy K2 and MF M1-DAC. All still in the box and unsused. When I demoed the kit with the r100's it was the first time I've listened to a proper / decent system since 1986 so it will probably sound amazing to me even if it isn't
If it sounds amazing to you, then it is amazing! Don't let anyone tell you it isn't. Enjoy.
Creek Evolution 5350 amp (with Creek Sequel 40 phonoboard) - Creek Evolution 2 CDP - Squeezebox Touch

But by the time I've managed to set it all up it will be Monday at best.
So how are you getting on with setting them up then?
Come on Tubular, were getting impatient here
Red wine eh ? I nearly sent the wife out to get me some crack !!
Friday night and 2 full days later and still not completely done. TT not set up yet, not brave enough, looks very complicated. I think the rest of the kit is set up correctly but it was hard work ops:
Stands were a nightmare, had to re-tap 2 of the spike holes in the stand base. Getting the speaker cable up the hole in the stand leg was fine but getting the banana plugs out of the hole at the top was nigh on impossible - twice And then when I'd managed it I couldnt get the plugs into the ports on the speakers. Loosened the screws, pushed the plugs and pushed some more. for hours. It was only when I completely loosened the screw and it fell off that I spotted the little red stopper in the hole No mention of those little rascals in the manual
But I digress, how does it all sound you want to know.
Well IMHO it sounds absolutely amazing I'm not going to waffle on about terrific highs and wonderful mid-ranges because I dont know what they are yet but it sounds cracking to me. It's been on for about 4 hours now, 2 of them with the dial at 10 o'clock (see, I'm getting the jargon) and I really loved it. Looking forward to how it goes each day as it all burns in. Didn't think for one minute that my untrained ears would be able to notice any difference between the R100's I demoed and the LS50's but I actually can. Probably down to the fact that the 100's were run in and The 50's are not yet but I've played the tracks I demoed with and heard more background detail with the 50's on 'Blue Monday' than with the R100's but I think they were more fuller sounding musically than the 50's but I'm hoping they'll go the same way when they are run in more.
So the verdict is money well spent and I'm very happy. Gregvet, I hope you get the same joy but a bit quicker than I did
Right then, I'm off to read a pro-ject manual . I may be some time !
So I have a new/open box pair of Kef LS50's arriving on Monday. Got a good discount on the new price, so pretty happy.
Only issue is they have been bought blind, I haven't heard a pair yet!
I blame you lot lol
Seriously tho, it's really exciting but making me all nervous at the same time. At least I can sell them (or the spendor sa1's they will potentially replace) for what I bought them for, so I shouldn't lose out.
Roll on Monday!
Wouldn't you have been better putting the money towards the ex-demo AMS-35i you were talking about over on Cno's thread?
MF AMS-Primo / MF AMS-35P / Linn Akurate DS / Kef Reference 205/2 / Krix Epicentrix / Focal Dome 2 / JL Audio Fathom F110 & F112 / Yamaha RX-Z7 / Oppo Nuforce BDP-93 / PS3
Fingers crossed, I will get to hear what all the fuss is about tonight! Glad you are enjoying your system so far.
I will report back
Good luck with the turntable. I wouldn't know where to start there lol
You two are like some twisted Hifi tag team. You don't give up do you
Much as I would love to try the ams, its far too much money for me at the moment. I can sell my old speakers to cover the cost of these new ones, so it's not actually costing me anything.
Weve just bought a flat that needs loads of work that we can barely afford. If I spent that money on an amp I wouldn't have anywhere to live.
Maybe at some point down the line, but I am far more likely to try class a in some cheaper incarnation first (sugden maybe) before dropping that kind of cash on a product I haven't heard.
