Hi,

I would like to upgrade my old Marantz CD48 cd player.  After searching the internet there is a number of cd players that met my budget criteria, such as Creek Evo, Audiolab 8000CD, Marantz SA7001, Cambridge Audio Azur 740C, NAD C542.  I do not feel that I will be able to listening to all of them, therefore I would like some advice which one can I priorities.  I am mainly listening to synthpop/darkwave music such as Mesh, De/Vision, Xymox, Diary of Dreams.  The rest of the set-up for the time being is: Rotel RC-971 pre-amplifier, NAD 214 power amplifier, Ruark Icon loudspeakers, REL Stampede subwoofer.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Many Thanks.

IMHO, and given your musical tastes, I'd narrow down your listening to Audiolab, Cambridge and Creek. I'm sure one of those will suit your system very well.

No contest here! get a Cambridge audio 740C then in the future you can upgrade your amp to C.A. 840A and buy a pair of Triangles Antal. job done - a high end sound for midrange money.
regards
