RE: Naim Ovator S-400 vs Sonus Faber Venere 3.0

I recognise that 'in your face' description too. There must be some redeeming features but I certainly didn't hear any!

This esteemed mag said: The S-400s deliver the kind of presentation that brings the musicians into your listening room rather than transporting you to the recording venue.

Perhaps a reviewer's way of diplomatically saying the same thing?  Also says to me it cannot adequately reproduce the venue acoustics - which to me is a vital aspect of a decent speaker. It did get 5 stars though, so cannot be ignored.

Krell CD and amp, Michell/Rega/Grado record player, Hitachi and Sony tuners, Nakamichi cassette, SBT streamer, Sonus faber spkrs.  Sony and Samsung BDP & TVs. Qobuz > iPad > AudioPro Allroom Air One

I have heard the Ovators but seemed "boxy" for me.

Main system: MF AMS 35i / Focal 1028be / Electrocompaniet EMC 1UP / MIT cables

Bedroom: Laptop(Qobuz) / Chord gem / Rega Brio-r / KEF ls50 / TQ black / Sennheiser momentum

Between the two I would go for the Sonus Faber as it's a much more refined speaker. I've never been attracted to the Ovator - a bit too in-your-face for me. Having said that, I have no experience with the Devialet amp. Perhaps a good middle ground might be the new ProAc D30 (not sure if the D28 is still being made?).

I have never got on with the Ovators.....but only heard them on the end of Naim systems.

Yes me too. All Ovator owners I know run them with Naim systems.

try with the B&W CM 10. They perform well with the D-110.

Gosh, yes, I should think you are happy. Sonus faber Guarneri Memento?

I'd be interested to hear a bit about them and what else you've listened to.

Matt

I have listened to many speakers and none have impressed me as much as Marten speakers.
