I'm starting to think I have too many boxes & cables and need to simplify.

Currently I'm using a Squeezebox Touch with upgraded PSU as my music player and this is connected to an external DAC. I also have a blu-ray player.

Do any current blu-rays offer the same functionality as the Touch i.e. phone app to select music, spotify (optional), ability to play high res flac or wav files?

Oppo Blu Ray players can do that but for the app, eventhough it can control the player, the TV will still need to be on to know what song you are playing.

THIS would.

It would also store your media locally and do a whole lot more besides. I used to have one before my Mac mini.

As mentioned the Oppo 105 EU makes a very good job of most things.

More basic but you could look at Sony S790.

You can forget about phone app though as I don't know any cheap ones that provide this facility

Better still Superfi are currently doing an 'open box' deal on the Marantz UD5005 for £270

Thanks everyone. I have looked at the Oppo's before but want to keep the need to use the TV out of the equation. It would seem all can stream but none can replace the function of a streamer.

The more boxes I can reduce the more chance of fitting in a seperate amp alongside the AV for HiFi duties. If I had enough money it would be best to keep the Blu ray player I have and buy a Naim streamer. They have their own amp and I could ditch the Touch and external DAC.

Costly, but it looks like that would be the only way to get everything you require ......... and a very good streamer into the bargain.

I use the Oppo 105 as my streamer. I use Plugplayer on my iPad to send it music from my server which runs Asset UPNP. Works wonderfully well. No need for the screen to be on as Plugplayer shows me what I am playing. The Oppo even has a 'Pure' mode for audio that turns off all the video circuitry. I also have an Apple TV feeding the optical input on the Oppo to act as an Airplay receiver for Spotify on my iPad.

That Pc I recommended would do what you want, but with a large library, you are going to need some sort of screen anyway to effectively scan your library, this could be done with the TV or via a remote device using apps.

Does your AV setup consist of more than two speakers and a sub?
