MISSION MX1 vs aural envelope ex300
English

Hi

I currently have a Cambridge Audio DAC Magic connected to my PC, then into a Panasonic AV Receiver and then into some Aural Envelope EX300s....

I can hear some of you laughing already Smile     Anyway, I have chance to pick up some Mission MX1 to replace the EX300s, so they would be bookshelf speakers replacing the floor standers. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade? The room is roughly 5m x 3.5m

Also, how terrible is it to use an AV Receiver as my amp?

Thanks

Mac

Why do you want to replace your Aural Envelope EX300s ?

I have discovered that using an AV amp for stereo is far better than using a stereo amp for stereo - its like once you go AV.....lol.

Seriously AV amps are more versitile and depending on age more powerful. Modern stereo amps go loud, but have no power to my ears. I hear people talking about such things as 'lean' bass or 'crisp' tops what they mean is an amp unable to drive the woofer in your speakers correctly to get the full harmonic range it can produce or its inability to control a tweeter to make a dynamic whole.

Turn off all unused channelson the AV amp, turn your left & right speaker levels to the max and listen, maybe give the internal DAC ago by connecting to the digital input via coax. I myself am currently in the process of going back to AV after trying what was a pretty expensive Stereo amp for a year not only did I miss the DSP functions for when I was in the mood I also miss the sense of real control and power in reserve the amp had with my speakers.

Funny thing is in a demo, the stereo amp would have won....... crazy.

It is very strange observation  I have discovered quaite the opposite using  a stereo amp for stereo  is far better than using an AV amp for stereo . AV is great for home theater but not for hearing music in trems of details , sound stage and power stereo amp

is far better but you have to find the proper amp to do it .

The funny thing is the stereo amp does sound loud in a demo it impressed me. But getting it home and I found it was more shouty than loud, The bass was there but compared to the reciever it had no texture or weight it thumped, but you could'nt differentiate between low bass notes i.e double bass and footdrum, also lower midrange was missing so alot of detail you hear like a singers breathing went missing, anothe example of lower register was you can define how many vocalist are doing backing clearly...its these things which for me makes the reciever much better for music. the bass on the rx'er go's lower too.

I bought into a dedicated stereo amp should sound better but the rx'er I own is really good at playing music - via its own dac too - it was an accident that I found this out without a demo or anything too.......its a yamaha. ax-620

actually looking at your sig, try connecting your rcd-1520 to the yamaha 767 use one leg of you Crimson interconnect to connect it via coax, see what you think - turn off the dsp (effects off) and all unused speakers and set bass to fronts and turn the level of the right left channels to +10 or is it +15, to the max anyway using the white noise level check, not sure your missions can do that amp the 767 justice though, but compare it to the Rokson........I'd like to hear your opinion.
