You mention other options... could you name some? unfortunately my options are limited out here but i might be able to find something.

Yes I did touch one some before like Creek, Exposure, Sugden these are new but if you are buying used then that will open to some exotic names like Electrocompaniet.

You say out here, where is that?

Qatar... perhaps only elctrokompaniet would be possible. 2nd hand is dependent on whats on sale in Dubai and as i understand its basically Denon, Marantz, B&W, Rotel, Naim, Electrokompaniet and HK as well as some NAD and Cambridge Audio but majority is lower end or higher end, little in the middle.

I see. Well important thing is to hear them before buying, Rotel do some good higher end gear, meant to go well with B&W. If you can hear the Pearl v Pearl Lite that would be good, esp the SACD player.

Interesting, i look at the Rotel's but i see they are about 1,500 pounds cheaper than the Pearl when it was released. Additionally they have Dac's in them etc.. can they be compared fairly? Or were you thinking of Pre / Power amp seperates from Rotel?

Also, Has anyone got any experience with Roksan Caspian M1 CD + Amp (going for 700 pounds together used).

I keep coming back to the thought that these Pearls are worth 2,500 pounds New (which of course they arent cause they are no longer on sale due to the fact they had a 500 product run). This surely puts them in a different/higher bracket to many new 1-1,500 pound amps from for example Rotel and Naim.

Yes it was the pre-power amps that are about £2,000.

RE: Marantz Pearls

In my opinion a first hand demo experience is what you need. (particularly at that kind of money)

Looking back, I've only got a satifying level of performance through a lot of listening.  Before that it was just endless upgrades- which were more like side grades. The thing is, you never know what the system as a whole sounds like and if that is your taste before you hear it.

Please, please demo first before you buy.
