make my cyrus 1 sing

Hi all, I have just found a cyrus 1 amp{stoked} and was wondering what late model cd player and  floorstanding/bookshelf speakers would suit. my room is fairly bright with polished timber floors,leather furniture,timber blinds,L-shaped lounge. Currently using db dynamics floorstanders plus 100w sub but sounds harsh when volume turned up to 10 oclock. I also suspect my pioneer dv-535 dvd player isnt helping matters.thanks for any suggestions.cheers max
