90 might well work perfectly, the 80hz "omnidirectional" thing is a complete fabrication, what actually matters is the frequency with respect to how close the speakers/sub are together, there's a formula defining the relationship but I've forgotten it...
The way I see it, so long as the length of the waveform is longer than the distance beteen sub and speakers, then I'm fine.
So it's approx 3.8 metres long at 90Hz
I am fine (if and when I can get it to work).
there ya go, good luck getting it to work!!
Unfortunately, after I read the flippin manual, it appears I may have wasted some time... ah well.

Build your own speaks
hehe. i have 2left hands...
And i have 2 left feet, what a pair.
Nover done a self build but i'd imagine you'd have great satisfaction in doing so, minimal amount of soldering required using minidsp.
gone off the idea of minidsp. At least the cheap version.
I am keeping my eye out for 2nd hand Helicon 400s.
In the meantime, I am sat loving my Ikons, and if I am fair, for 90% of my music, the bass is just fine.
Right now it's Gregor Samsor - Rest.
What circumstances decide which system you use?
Or, to put it another way, which one of your set-ups provides you with more pleasure listening to?
Pretty ... and pretty proud of it
It's an interesting question DM.
Right now, Arcam/Dali Ikon6
The ADMs are great speakers, but are on my main pc. And for the moment my sub is in use with the tv. The ADMs without sub are great quality, but overall, the Dalis extra bass warmth, and IMO better treble, draw me in more. So I would rather sit here, on a comfy sofa, with my Windows tablet and enjoy them.
Active is without doubt the way forward for ultimate SQ, but the benefits IMO are (to say the least) exaggerated by a small group of people who seem to do their utmost to put people off bothering. I don't sense any boom, or tizz. And the only thing I would change is more available bass depth.
If I was in the market for a new system, based on standmounts... I would not buy passive speakers. But my wish is for full range speakers and the choice in my price range is very limited. The ADM 40s seemed to be the best possible buy, but were sadly dropped, obviously in favour of a potential big seller.
So, my (current) thought is to sit tight, and go for more of the same, but with a fuller range.
Yes, it leaves me potentially wanting an amp upgrade, but what the heck...
And once I sort out another sub, I will enjoy the ADMs more and then it will be simply when I need to use the PC, which for me is very often
There's a place and time for either one i guess. Thanks
I don't sense any boom, or tizz.
I agree, And I've heard my fair share of actives and passives in recent years. Marketing hype isn't restricted to a select few it seems!

I dunno, you could have edited out the unwanted carriage return (as I was using the tablet without keyboard)
How anyone can do that for any length of time is beyond me!
I did it on a tablet too (Android), so couldn't be bothered.
I may edit it on a proper computer later.
I love proper computers.
Tell me about it. The 11" Windows tablet beats my old Galaxy tab into a cocked hat. But this 17" Asus, with a real mouse plugged in...Ahhhh. Bisto. I can relax again.
Tablets only, omg. I'd rather go back to black and white TV.
