I have the Kefs in the end of an Arcam A38 but they also sound great on the A19 so a brilliant combo IMHO. However, as they have rear firing ports, they do need a little space behind them. I have mine about 9" from a solid rear wall which helps the bass remain controlled and not engulf the midrange detail.

I found the bungs reduced the scale. This may well be different in different rooms though of course!

You could sell the amp and buy some AVI ADM9 active speakers.

Hi-Fi        Behringer UCA202 > AVI DM5

Head-Fi  Epiphany Acoustics EHP-O2Di > Sennheisser HD700

Portable Sony NWZ-A847 > Westone UM3x

I can understand that with the full bung, but did you try taking out the middle part of the bung? Or just the outer bung in the lower port?

RE: KEF LS50 plans scuppered. Alternative speakers?

If you upgrade your amp you've to demo Dynaudios Excite X12 or the new ones the X14.

Lovely speakers, big smooth sound, silky mid range...

give them a go,you'll not regret!

Don't rule out Epos (Epic or Elan)!

Airport Express (still analog!), Artephonos Energa (tube-amp), Peitho 303 (infinite baffle speakers)

RE: I found the bungs reduced the

I played with the bungs (full and outer)  after you suggested doing so some time ago but I found the best solution was to move the cabinets further from the wall.  I am fortunate enough to have a bit of space so I am toying with trying out the R500s soon!

Hi David Parkes

ATC's new curved SCM7 monitors and if budget allows and can accomodate them then the new curved SCM11 monitors are also worth a look. The ATC's with their closed box designs and a flat and honest presentation helps them to be placed close to walls without the low frequency in particular getting itself into a twist and losing control.

All the best

I love my Dali Mentor Menuets - they could be just the ticket for you at this price point: they sound (and look) amazing and can go up against the wall

Hi David,

The New Neat Motive SX range, including SX1, 2 and 3 as previously labelled would be well worth considering. I'm expecting great things and should all be idea for your room and setup.

Well after much auditioning

Well after much auditioning today, I made my choice. The kef r100s were great, eclipsed my ms avanio 1-xr by miles! Then the amp..... My marantz 6004 was much nicer than the roksan kandy k2, but change to the arcam a-19 and or seemed like a marriage made in heaven with the kef's. I heard stuff in tracks I'd never heard before despite listening to them for years!

Happy..... Even happier when they arrive. Smile

Congrats on your purchase! Arcam and Kef are made for each other IMHO! Enjoy! :rockout:
