I'm confused! Quad amp + Spendor SP 1 but what CD player?!!
HI
New to the forum so hello all...
Looking for some advice on a CD player. I'm a big fan of British hi fi kit and just picked up a mint condition Quad 44 pre amp and 405.2 power amp with a beautiful set of Spendor SP 1 speakers. So far so good but would like to add a CD player that would compliment and match this system. I like a warm rich sound but with a little bit of brightness but not too harsh. Been looking at everything from the Vintage Quad 67 CD player to new stuff like Exposure. I seem to have got myself into a cul de sac now and not sure what to look at. new or used is both fine and would like to keep it under a £1000 if possible but will go higher for something superb. Currently running an old Technics and wondered if a DAC would be a better option?
Any advice very much appreciated.
Cheers
Hi and welcome to the forum.
You are already well on your way to a very nice system... for the money you wouldn't go wrong with either of the above mentioned players... particularly the Electrocompaniet... failing that, perhaps a Rega Saturn.

Thanks for the tips fellas, will have a look at these models.

No probs, just keep us posted how you get on.

I think an Audiolab 8200 CD would work really well in that system. It has the added bonus of digital inputs too.
Not sure what you could get for your budget, but Naim or Lynn are worth a look too.
Hi Le Sonic,
For your 'warm rich sound' I would tend to go for the Astin Trew AT3500 although it is slightly over your budget at the moment unless you are lucky enought to find one second-hand or ex-dem.
The Electrocompaniet is also a fairly safe bet.
I have not heard one myself but the new Naim CD5si might also fit the bill, judging only by reviews.
Hi,
Read the reviews and took your advice and picked up a second hand Astin Trew 3500plus with some Mullard tubes for a very good price. It's on it's way so shall report back on the sound!
Cheers

Hi there and welcome.
Maybe something like the Electrocompaniet PC-1, £835 ex-dem from here: http://www.kronosav.com/
