You need to decide how serious you are regarding in getting a decent sound from your system. If placement of settees/sideboards and other furnishings is paramount (which is the impression i'm getting from your posts) then you're throwing good money after bad investing in decent kit and especially "nice to haves" like decent cable.
I too run the B&W 685s and my room is not massively dissimilar to yours. I have them at either side of the fireplace on smallish stands, firing towards the settee. The sound is incredible. Punchy, detailed and with terrific soundstaging.
My two cents is that placement comes first and looking at how you have the system set up is as bad as it could be really.
Bottom line is do you want to get the most from your kit or have an aesthetically pleasing living room?
