Recently bought an ex demo NAD L70 DVD receiver for just £200 to use with my new Samsung LE40R8BDX screen and with my new Mordaunt Short Avant 902i speakers on stands (cant afford surround sound). However, the NAD L70 has a fault on the display and seemed to keep pausing my DVD. I am also not overly keen on its inability to upscale DVDs and the number of inputs. I have therefore decided to return it and am thinking of one of the following:

NAD C320BEE AMPLIFIER

Marantz PM4400

Marantz PM4001

Cambridge Audio A5

Along with a Samsung DVD-HD870 DVD player. Firstly can anyone shed some light on which is the better amp out of these. Im aware some are more expensive than the others, but would rather not be paying too much since I have to budget for some good cables.

Also can someone tell me if the best way to connect all this is using HDMI for DVD to LCD? When I play a DVD do I want the sound to go straight from the DVD player in to the "Video" L&R phono sockets for sound? Or do I go from the LCD to the amp (which Id have to do anyway to get TV sound through the amp)?

Thanks (I also posted this in "Home Cinema" since I didnt know which was best!)
