Geeks or Nerds? It's a bit like watching the Big Bang with Sheldon Cooper. I like the comment about drink whisky and enjoy the music. I'm sure Jura sounds better than Bell's!

SpursGator, you are a tiresome bore. All that ranting simply to take a dig at AVI. Your pathetic attempt to start a topic aimed squarely at AVI failed miserably. Get over it and move on.

If I was about to break forum regs (which I am not), "tiresome bore" would be "charming chap" compared to what I would write. But as I said, I shall refrain. Some people are best ignored, especially ones who seem to have been unfotunate enough to be infected with the virus F.o.R.u.M.diarrhoea.generator.script

Would you two like to play the ball and not the man? By telling us why you disagree with anything he's said in this topic?

I think that everything that Spursgator said in his last post in this thread was fair comment.

Certainly it seems there is a policy to try and educate the clueless, and just you try arguing with some members of the AVI forum, they KNOW, to question shows just how stupid you are.

Edit, forgot to say SpursGator generally has something interesting to say, so do tend to read his posts.

Speaking as a forum reader his posts always seem informed and educational James

I've seen quite a few personal attacks on here, most distasteful....

Similarly there is almost no difference between a £200 CD player and one at 10x that other than 20 kg.

Ah yes, all's well in fr0g's homogenous heaven. Well this hasn't been my experience from my first Technics player, to a truly awful NAD player, to an even worse Pioneer DVD player.

No way am I justifying a really expensive CD player, but you really want to bet as to 'almost no difference'? Really? Late last year I went to audition a few speakers at a dealer who had a cheaper CA deck - and it was as sibilant as hell - with whatever speaker hooked up. And it wasn't the amplification either - cos the sibilance disappeared when I hooked up my own system (I dragged it along for the ride).

It reminds me of that old Hollywood movie conceit that it was impossible to tell that a woman was attractive until she undid the bun in her hair, shook it loose and took off her glasses. Or the other, far more regrettable, conceit they perpetuated that blonde haired women were inherently more desirable and  therefore less intelligent.

It sold a lot of hydrogen peroxide.

RE: "Geeks"

My wife would agree that I am a tiresome bore and my posts are too long.

But the dig at AVI is justified - they've declared war on the whole hifi industry, especially high-end kit and the culture of 'geeks.' Basically they are saying that people (like me) who buy or like it are suckers and idiots, and the people (like WHF) who sell it are hucksters and frauds.

I'm sorry but what am I supposed to do, bend over and take it with a smile? I am offended and have a right to say so, especially if I explain why.

If you don't like my posts, skip over them! Save yourself the time.

For those that do, thanks for the postive feedback.
