Oooh I bet you did too ,little minx you is .
Indeed , I'm not going to argue with that.
Why did you go back to listening to a box of trannies ?
I wish more peeps on here had the Retheps, lets have a try attitude , regarding valve amplification.
A divorce and subsequent move to a much smaller place put an end to it.
I think half the problem these days is that even half decent valve amplifiers cost quite a bit but I agree, if you have a little bit of dosh, taking some tube amplifiers into a shortlist would make a lot of sense.
Folks going there usually never return.
I am happy with my STR DB930. It apes the strength of valves, mainly dynamic mids and a much more 'natural' presentation of music than my other SS amplifiers, at least to my ears. Heading over to agoraquest will explain a little why as long as you dont take the main contributor to seriously, he's gone 'slightly' overboard with. his 930. Still, he prefers it to his CJ etc set-up. It also has a measured dynamic headroom of over 160w into 8ohm and 240 into 4, something which not many valve amps do. That plus a good phono stage, Headphone amp, DAC's etc. Probably one of Sony's finest AV efforts if others are to be believed.
Having said that, I still got my newly bought Realistic SA 100-B waiting to be tried and refurbed. Really looking forward to that.
I'd love to have a Mcintosh though ...
Pretty ... and pretty proud of it
Oh bottoms ,sorry to hear that mate. Was going to tempt you with a s/h Mac (275) but just checked and she is gone.
-Yes, i could homedemo if i wanted. But not necessary. I compared the Epos with them in the same acoustics, at his place. Speakers (his) don't sound too different in my acoustics. He knows my place as he delivered the amp already. Endtubes are 6H13 or (Russian 6AS7) double triodes.
- Yes, it has paper (doped) cones. The special thing is that it is an infinite baffle system.
- Yes the Epos is a very nice speaker (still) but my new amp was that good that it "forced" me to be critical, and then the Epos is a bit short in bass and has a very small sweet spot.
Airport Express (still analog), Artephonos Energa (power-tube-amp), Peitho 303 (speakers). Panasonic TX-P42G30 (tv).
Thanks for that. What about the output driver /small signal / first stage valves, he seems a bit secretive on his circuit build . I think I could make out at least another 4 valves besides the triodes from the photograph that I managed to find.
Just interested my friend.
It could be that he is a bit secretive. It is his own design, based on about 45 years of audio-experience.
Other tubes are (from review): 2 x ECC83 and 1 x 6SN7 per channel. Furthermore it has a transistor regulated power supply, which gives the very deep bass.
Cheers mate. Ooooh 6SN7s , you can have great fun rolling those for not a lot of money *. Yip I have 6SN7s in my mono blocks and pre amp ,lovely valves.
Thanks again for your info , appreciated.
* you could also spend a fortune ,hee hee.
I ordered mine (speakers) today! Now we wait (for 5 weeks). Although it is expensive, you cannot buy such system (infinite baffle) in any shop, that i know.
Is it really as good as that? I'll keep mine a bit longer then, what speakers do you run on yours DM (crumbs!)?
No signature worth mentioning...
Peitho speakers will be delivered on friday. Finally! I think i will start a new thread about it.
I am running Cayin At100 with kef 201/2. These are very inneficient, more so than the LS 50. Best combo of any speakers I have ever had. Big difference in dynamics once I changed out the Chinese KT 88s with Tungsol KT120s. Nice. I listen to at least 50% hard driving rock and this combo leaves my 150w channel ss amp in the dust all the way around.
