RE: Dali Zensor 3 Owners' Club

I can't comment on the Diamond 122 as I haven't heard them but going on my extensive experience of both brands (Diamond 9.1, Diamond 8.3+, Diamond 10.4 and Dali Lektor 2, Dali Zensor 1, Dali Zensor 3, and Dali Ikon 1) I'd plump for the Dalis every time.  The only Wharfedale I've heard in recent years that I felt to be wholly successful is the Diamond 9.1 and, combined with the poor finish of the current Diamond line and the fact that the Zensor 3s really are great speakers, I'd go for the Dalis.

I would go for Zensor 3, I think Wharfedale 122 has less clarity. Wharfedale Diamonds have a little warmer sound than Dali Zensor series, with accentuated bass response. Zensor is more neutral. For me W. 121 is better than Zensor 1 because of bass response. Both Zensors and Diamonds are musical sounding speakers

I replaced my Q Acoustics 2020is with Zensor 3s, and as good as the 2020is were, the Zensors beat them in every regard.

I love them.

i bought some Dali Zensor 3's today from Superfi in Nottingham. had a nice demo with the friendly and helpful staff and chose these over the monitor audio Bronze BX2's.

running them on background "burning them in" so to speak. how long do i need to do this for before i can turn up the volume more without damaging them? i also want to know how loud i can take them in the safe zone..is 100-110DB safe? i had my old bundled denon rcd-n8 speakers running at 115db on a bass heavy song and they sounded like they couldnt go much more

Out of interest, how are you measuring the db level?

OK, that's good. I would take the accuracy of the reading with a big pinch of salt, but for comparitive purposes it will be very useful.

Regarding running in, a few hours should loosen them up nicely, any differences you hear after that is most likely you adjusting to them, not the other way round.

Maximum safe opperating level is, primarily a function of amplifier power and speaker sensitivity. The bundled speaker was probably designed to be quite sensitive, to get the most from a modest power output, do not be surprised if your measurements are lower the Dalis may well be less sensitive.

In addition they are better quality and therefore lower in distortion, this will make them sound less loud. The issue here is that you might turn the amplifier uo further to compensate and therefore over drive the amplifier.

When driven beyond their rated power, amplifiers produce a lot of distortion and other nasties and it is this that blows up speakers. If your speakers ever sound distressed, turn them down, immediately irrespective of the setting on the volume control, this is no indicator of the power being delivered by the amplifier.

Remember the maximum settings you used on your old speakers before any strain or distress, do not go beyond this until you have a better idea how your amp/speaker combination is behaving.

RE: Dali Zensor 3 Owners' Club

Hi all,

I bought Zensor 3 and I ordered Marantz PM6005. Meantime I would like to find suitable speaker cables..  Do you have any suggestions which cables should I choose for this kind of set? Is Chord Rumour 2 or can I get something cheaper and it won't make significant difference.. Is maybe QED Silver Anniversary XT better choise? I would like to get warm sound, not too bright.. In general, do you think Marantz PM6005 is a good choice with Zensor?

Thanks for your help!

Dalis work well with Marantz as they aren't too taxing to drive/control and they seem to tonally suit each other.

Rumour 2 is superb and well worth the extra over Carnival Silverscreen (I've got both and the Rumour 2 sounds significantly better).  However, Rumour 2 works best when used in conjunction with Chameleon VEE3 interconnects so do keep that in mind.

If you like a warmer sound don't touch Silver Anniversary with a barge pole.  It is dreadful stuff.

Has anyone heard zensor 3 on the end of the marantz pearl lite? Considering these or q-acoustics concept 20 amongst others for an average sized room approx 12'x15'. Source would NA7004.

Heard the Dali zensor 3's today and the bass is much better then the zensor 1 but on the other hand if placed in a corner you wont't have bass problems with the zensor 1 as i would guess there would be with the zensor 3

RE: Dali Zensor 3 Owners' Club

Last week I bought a new pair of Dali Zensor 3. Soundstage and bass are so much better than Zensors 1 but the treble is edgy and harsh.
I compared it with my old Zensor 1&monitor audio rx2 and the  sibilance is more pronounced on  the new Zensor's 3, even at low volumes.
Will time improve the treble? My amp is Pioneer A-30k. Thank you.

What source are you using with the Zensor 3 and Pioneer A30? If you are using low quality MP3 files or similar this maybe the issue. I don't have any issues with my Dali Lektor 2's. Maybe run them in a lot longer. I know my Dalis improved no end.

I also had the Rumour 2 cable and Carnival Silverscreen but couldn't notice any difference so sold the Rumour 2. However, it did take up less space. Also like you mentioned I wasn't using the VEE3 interconnects.  I'm using 6mm Van Damme LC-OFC now and happy with it.

Blackdawn, xonar st / flac files. It sounds to me there's a little bit more treble than on my old Zensor 1(even i know they use the same treble driver). I'll continue to run them.
